Question About Joint Ventures

Hello,

Still an IM newbie so any help you can provide is appreciated...

I want to start getting some joint ventures going but there are a few issues that I need clarification with...

1 - My opt-in list is very small (under 50). I want to do JV's but will I be turned down because I don't have a big list to cross-promote?

2 - I don't have extra cash to pay someone to promote my product to their list - will I have to give away a sizeable percentage of the overall sale to get JV partners on board?

3 - I've read that before contacting potential JV partners, I should already be making sales and have proof of my conversion rates - well I'm literally just starting so I have no sales as of yet. Will this hinder my chances of doing a JV? If it does, I dont understand why - all they have to do is promote my product to their list and they make easy money? Am I THAT naive?

Thanks in advance!

    1. Probably.

    2. Probably.

    3. Everyone says their product will bring in easy money. Notice I said probably to your first two questions. Only you control the actual answer.

Think of it this way. When someone has a large list, proven products and momentum, they get to call the shots. You don't have to like it but you have to recognize it.

Can you still participate in successful JVs? Of course. A joint venture is nothing more than a partnership agreement. The thing about partners is this. One person supplies what the other doesn't have. Othewise, why would they need a partner.

So if you want to JV with someone figure out what kind of massive value you can bring to the table in place of the traditional stuff that might be expected.

    Hey, mb1!!!

My suggestion is to get out and meet other Internet Marketers and network!

There are Warrior Events going on now all over the country and abroad. If you can make one of those events, I bet you would meet at least one successful Warrior who would be more than happy to JV with you.

However, the key is to get to know them first. If you have any special skills you can offer, put it out there and let them know that you are available to help. Remember, this is a two-way relationship.

I don't know where you're located but I know that one of the most successful Annual Warrior Events will be held in Raleigh, NC next weekend (March 9th - 12th) I think.

Go here to get more details:

Hope to see you joint venturing soon with one of our heavy-hitters!

What you need to understand it that getting to the top doesn't happen overnight. And unless you personally know some big guys in the business that can get you intouch with other big guys, you will have to slowly climb up the ladder.

I am not saying that to discourage you but rather to motivate you. You see, its good for you to learn how to:

      1. Drive targeted traffic on your own
      2. Create good converting products
      3. It is also good for you to make potential JVs some sales/leads etc before expecting them to return a favor.

Once you get good at the above, you can survive on your own and then JVs will be the icing on the cake. But learn the basics first and pretty soon you'll have jvs running to you instead of the other way around.

A JV is a joint venture. That means there must be something of great value to each partner or there is no need to team up.

There are literally thousands of opportunities to promote products, but far fewer people with sizable lists. So like was already mentioned, you don't have the part that is in demand.

I quoted your 3rd point because in my opinion, it may be the key to your success. If you can show that your product will indeed produce more "easy money" than all the other products on the market, then you will get someones attention.

The fact is that if a big list owner sends an email, they will make sales of almost any product. But for them, it comes down to how much money. That is determined by things like commission percentage, sales price, and conversion rates.

If you can prove that your product has what it takes to make them big money, then you have a decent shot at getting a good jv partner.

if you come to me with no stat and say promote this so we can both make a lot of money I am likely to file your email in my circular file (the trash). But if you send me some traffic and conversion stats and show me that if i send traffic your way, i will be rewarded with a big pile of cash, then we may have something to talk about.

These factors are things you can do something about with relatively little time and money invested. You can get some traffic to your site and make sure its converting.

Mate Joint Venture is something which you need to do only if you are very confident about your partner.
I never believe in doing work with partners however many do.

Let me share story of my friend. He was running a successful blog, reached on top within very less time, many people started following him. 1 more very professional blogger asked him to start joint Venture with him and asked him to come to his city and work together from office with staff.
He found the option ok and as both were good frds he dint bother about legal things just decided verbally that if something fails you go with your assets and I will go with mine.

A few months later as the office n all were property of his partner, all the employees started treating him as a normal employee and his frd as Boss where he had more earning sites, a better approach and much sharper mind.

Later on when things started getting worse, he need to take a decision of braking the partnership.
He again have to start, he have to shift the city again, start his own firm, even he dint get all affiliate money which were generated with his sites.

I was never in favor of this but as he decided it already I said its ok, later on he himself realized friendship & business should be completely separated from each other.

Never start joint venture with someone whom you don't trust and even if you are starting with trusted person, be very clear with every term, get legal work done before starting.
    have clear Entry Exit terms.
I hope it will help you to decide.

    Thanks

Get a JV or getting one of the big hitters will depend on many things not just a large list and great product. As stated networking and getting to know a number of people by helping them first. Secondly if you have a great product especially on here then you'll soon get noticed. Lastly if you are going to approach these big hitters cold you had better have a great approach as I know some of these guys literally get 100's of emails a day wanting them to promote the senders product. Suggest you get great figures by selling your product first then send something unique like cookies and attach the URL of your proposal.

ijohnson - thanks for the advice - i'm actually in Canada - a bit of a drive to get to the event

yesacpow - thanks - i do want to be able to do it all on my own - i just figured JV's could help jumpstart things for me as I feel a bit lost as to where to start...

David Keith - thanks for your honest advice - i think my newbieness is showing haha - getting traffic is my main focus/obstacle right now...

Wisden Writers - thanks for your story - i really didnt think about it like that - i do prefer to work on my own but JVs seem to bring in a lot more money if they are done properly...

Richard Tunnah - great advice thanks - my niche is the self-improvement industry - but most of the marketers and programs i see on these forums are promoting products about internet marketing - so I don't know how much I would get noticed on here... unless I'm missing something?

    thanks again everyone!

Sounds like you need a high converting sales page and proof of income.

Either that or you can heavily promote an offer for a vendor in your niche, then once you've made them a bunch of sales, approach them for a JV and ask them to promote your service.
