Getting over the bump...
Long story short, this will be my first foray into internet marketing. I've found a niche that I'd like to try and capitalize on but the more and more that I think about it the more and more I wonder if I'm heading in the right direction or not.
This product would be an actual manufactured product that you can order from some of the big box specialty stores that cater to this particular niche, but not from the manufacturer.
The keyword competition for each item in the niche look good. About 20k competing pages with searches of between 800 and 1000 a day. Google's top 10 include 2 big box stores and the rest looking like mom and pop brick and mortars who've put up online storefronts within the niche. If I make the attempt to capitalize on this niche basically I'd be acting as an affiliate for one of these big box stores at a 5% commission. I might consider getting in touch with one of the mom and pops to negotiate a larger commission later on, but I want to get off and running first.
Now I know that 5% doesn't sound like much but I'm really trying to just get my feet wet. At this point if I could make enough money monthly to pay for my hosting and lunch once a week I'd be ecstatic beyond words. The plus side is that there is definitely some places in this niche that I can branch off into once I get the first one part and running.
If I pull the trigger and actually invest the time into putting together a website around this niche I'm worried that it's just going to flop, and flop hard. What I'd like to really know is if anyone has had any recent success with this type of scenario, or should I scrap this Idea and focus solely on another type of product, like an information product.
Many many thanks to anyone who takes the time to respond.
