Just Quit My Day Job

Hello Warriors,

Well today I made the leap and quit my 9 to 5.

1 month and I'm out in the wild full time.

It's been 2 years since I started my internet business and I've a lot to be thankful off to everyone here - I've learned a lot.

I'm confident enough I can sustain this going forward and am in the process of cloning my successful model into a second site.

Thanks to you all. And for those just starting out or having difficulties in IM - it can be done!

The simplicity of just taking action is what got me here - perseverance and action.

If anyone has any questions leave them here and I will reply!

      Just 1 right now with around 15,000 subscribers. That plus the FB page with 8,000 followers. Around 2500 avg hits a day.

      I have just set up a second site last week that copies exactly the same as site 1 but with a different product - so far 300 subscribers. around 350 hits a day avg.

      I have outsourced pretty much everything now and all i mainly do is answer emails and manage everything for site 1. Site 2 i've outsourced everything but am a bit more hands on directing everything and am currently just building the list and content and will release a new product in mid april...

      Once that is done i will be cloning it again for another product and so on... each site i will build up to a small team of 2 people to run (content generation) and move onto the next.

      All the sites have a similar product - slight variations... so i can waterfall the traffic from one site to the next.

      That is the plan anyways!

    I have a question... It's probably bad manners to ask how much money you are making, but I'll ask this: How much money do you recommend that a person makes before quitting the day job? Also, do you have a plan for what you are going to do if (God forbid) something happens to your site?

      On average monthly i am doing around double what i earn from my day job. I have been doing this consistently for several months now.

      I have around 6 months money cash saved in case of emergencies.

      I would recommend you are making you salary plus 50% at least and have a few months cash in the bank so you have a buffer.

      I back up the site every day so not sure what could happen... worst came to the worst and i got blocked from Google - no problem... a large chunk of my traffic comes from forums and i have my list so i could keep the traffic flowing... as i said above - I'm cloning the whole thing and plan to make a few of these sites over time.

      The only issue i could forsee would be PayPal shutting me down - but my shopping cart allows a couple of other payment options and i'm looking to perhaps a merchant account later this year. If this did happen - i would just switch it over to my GF's (verified) PP.

      Everybody' case is different and you must work out your own margin for error. You don't necessarily have to save up a lot of money or match your full-time income before you quit. The questions you have to ask are

      1. Once I leave, is it easy to get a full time job again.
      2. What is the minimum money required per month to live comfortable. You should bear in mind that your circumstances change if you are married and have children.

      Since I was a highly specialized doctor in my last full-time job, I saved up more several years of living expenses for my family before I quit for family reasons. I have hundreds of sites so it is unlikely all would go down in one go. But business has been volatile since I went full-time at the end of 2005 and I found that our family expenses increased.

      I used exactly the same them and content ideas (mainly youtube and my own content). I set up popup domination and i paid a coupke hundred $$ for some likes (Facebook ads) on my new sites FB page - this got me a few hundred likes... whenever i post new content i get a stream of traffic from FB and PopUp Dom does the rest... i have an auto responder set up.

      The site only has some adsense on right now and making a couple $$ a day - unimportant though... for me it's about building the list and filling up the site with great content so i become the place to go for my niche... then in a couple months i will release a video product and sell it to the current list and build it into my autoresponder and put it on the main site.

      Then i will rinse/repeat onto site 3.

    How much money do you need to quit your day job?

    I'll give you some hard figures! You need $2000 a month to be able to live comfortably in any country with nice weather, good food and hot women (I'm thinking Thailand, Philippines, Peru, maybe Spain or Portugal).

    For the USA, Canada, UK, Australia I'd guess $3000 would cover it.

    To cover your ass you need to be diversified - if you're reliant on AdSense or Google traffic or ClickBank or the USA then you urgently need to be looking for baskets to put your eggs in!

    When I left the 9-5 cubicle rat race, I was determined to make it.

    I got up at 7:30 when I had to go to the day job and hated every minute of it. I watched the clock and couldn't wait until 5 o'clock.

    When I started my own business, everything changed. Most important was my attitude. I had a new appreciation for life. I couldn't wait to get out of bed. I woke up at 5:30 (sometimes earlier) because I couldn't wait to get started.

    I have worked harder for myself than anyone else.
    I was a good employee and I made good money.
    But there was something lacking - happiness and the terrible feeling that I had potential but wasn't utilizing it.

    I work longer hours now than I did before but I'm in control.

    A "boss" is not:

    • Dictating my future.
    • Capping my salary.
    • Determining my retirement (age and amount of money).
    • My hours.
    • My vacation.
    • My future.
    There's nothing better than being your own boss and in complete control of your future.

    For those asking what it is i do - i have a blog (now 2) that sell video products.

    This month has been a bumper month and i've not left work yet.. itching to get into it. I leave on Friday then i have 2 weeks training in Thailand then dive into the world of the self employed - can't wait!

      Hi - 1 site making money... i launched me second site a few weeks ago and just now just building up a list though it's making around $4 a day of adsene in the meantime... once i have a list of 1000 (690 at present) i will begin selling a video product to them - they are in a autresponse chain right now of some great free content.
