DMOZ is for legit sites, not really affiliate sites unless its a full site, even then its hard and takes long.

Actually I'm pretty sure DMOZ accepts zero affiliate sites.

DMOZ usually accepts sites that are high quality (at least by their standards) and in most cases, it really is hard (next to impossible) to get a site listed there.

I know lots of people put a lot of weight on DMOZ listing, but dont waste your time too much over it, submit your site, if it gets accepted, great, if not, move on and focus your energy on other parts of your business.
    Good luck.

dmoz is supposed to be an open source, and free directory to be listed in. However, many of the editors are fairly corrupt and expect some form of bribe unfortunately, if you search google for how to get into dmoz they will tell you the same thing. You might be able to find a guide on google about how to bribe them though, I'm not sure exactly how it works.

  • DMOZ is very strict with its rules one can't fool it in any legal related thing as per its listing policies. Many websites over the time has been submitted but rare only gets approval, there is no chances of 'MAY' because what works with DMOZ is its policies. Make sure that your website is as per DMOZ policies to get consideration.

      Agree.

But the problem may not require for you to pay or to forget it.

I know that DMOZ encourages you to pick one category, submit, then wait, but I learned that most of the category editors are either missing or asleep at the wheel.

This lesson came home to me when I submitted in one category and waited and waited and waited...

Then a buddy of mine was submitting his site to the directory, and at the time, he realized I did not have a listing. So my buddy submitted my site to a category that I would never had considered.

My buddy wrote to say that he had submitted my site to DMOZ as a courtesy. The listing that my buddy submitted for me was approved in less than 48 hours.

My guess is that he happened to find a category where the category editor was on the job, and I had submitted to a category where no one was home.

        Too bad Bill.

Seems I'm luckier. The Editors were wide awake when I submitted some sites. Got em listed.

3 days ago, I applied as a DMOZ editor in the Travel Agency category. See what'll happen.

Not all dmoz editors are corrupt. There aren't enough editors for the millions of submissions.

DMOZ doesn't accept just every listing that is suggested, their editors carefully check your website for broken links, redirects, relevancy, content and much more.. It's up to the editor to decide if your site is worth listing.. With the amount of suggestions they are getting I suppose they only accept very small percentage of them - the best of the best..

I love when people write that DMOZ is "Strict" they are not strict. What has happened is alot of people have become editors with he express intent to limit their competition in the category they are in. As for quality of the sites a lot are crap. I usually submit my site about once a year and have been for the past 7 years.

      Just my opinion

I think they lost much credibility when they became owned by aol aka time warner. Im not sure exactly how they make money but I certainly wouldn't be an editor for them for free as a volunteer.
