If you spot a not-so-obvious niche, do you go for it?

Yesterday, I stumbled upon some keywords with the following characteristics:

1. They have between 10 to 40,000 exact global searches a month
2. SEO competition research suggest top-3 should be very easy, top 1 probable
3. EMD.info is available
4. They are not in what you would call "buying" markets, more information type, say for example if someone has typed a question directly into Google.

Obviously, most people are just looking for an answer to the question. Is it worth going for something like thie, with no obvious way of selling? If you set up such a site, get to number 1, rake in a lot of those global searches, can you still make good money with something like adsense?

Maybe its worth having an adsence site for this keywords just because of high volume.

I probably wouldn't go for it. It's hard to make money online if you aren't selling anything.

Hmm I agree with both points... hard to make money if you're not selling something, yet people on search for information can go a bit click crazy, which brings adsense into play. My other thought is, if the question is medical, there must be clickbank products (or other) you could stick in the sidebar.

(whoops I'm getting carried away... emd.info is available)

If the niche is medical and there are related clickbank products, I would not put them in the sidebar. I would put them right up in the first darn line of whatever you are writing! and the last line!

And I change my answer. If this is a medical niche and there are related clickbank products then you may have struck GOLD!

Thanks Lisa, it is the medical ones I'm most interested in (and have bought the domains). Some are global (emd.info and emd.org), some are emd.co.uk but still with 6,000ish local searches.

If the question is medical and there are suitable ClickBank products with suitable sales-pages, I'd jump in with a very simple site and build a list.

Nobody's selling many ClickBank products through sidebar links.

Ideal (especially if it's medical - customers like "info").

This is an urban myth, Erik. It's no harder or easier to rank any TLD than any other TLD: they're all the same for SEO purposes. Google keeps on and on saying so, on blogs, on videos, and so on. There are about 100 threads here discussing this exact point in great detail.

I would not post the niche or the domains you just purchased for a high search keyword that is wide open. This is a high traffic forum and you will be surprised how fast people move on you.

    Hi Jim,

Some words of advice. Don't get involved in niches you don't have a passion for. Don't get involved in niches you don't have a strong knowledge on. Your energy would be better focused on something you have a strong passion for.

I agree 100%. Even if you have a strong passion for a particular niche but don't have extensive knowledge about it, you'll be motivated to do more research on it -- it'll feel less like work and, in the long run, you'll be significantly less likely to give up or get burnt out

      I disagree about that.

Your very much able to earn money on niche you have absolutely no interest in, just do some research and your set.

Passion or not, money is what drives us.

True, but you cannot honestly expect to build a solid long-term income from being an opportunist. You'll eventually burn out unless everything is completely automated.

Well I have next to no passion for anything medical related... which could be an issue here!! I have already purchased the domains, so I'll try a site with which one I think has the most potential, and see how it goes. I imagine I'll be fiverr'ing most of it anyway!

I agree with @Harvey M you can't bring a long term or short term income with EMD.info.It's hard to rank .info these days. If you are really passionate try to get into regional markets example you can build EMD.de instead of EMD.info

I agree with the list building advice. Just because people aren't buying in one niche doesn't mean that won't buy something in a vertical niche.

Thanks for all your input everyone, much appreciated. I agree that .info actually looks a really nice option in the medical sector, so that's cool. I've never looked into building lists, so that'll be starting from scratch, but it does sound like a good idea to me.

The search volume alone is worth setting up sites for these
    keywords!

You can easily monetize the keyword with the type of site you
set up, write about anything you want related to that keyword
term, even if you are just answering a question and giving information.

A platform was just set up for this VERY purpose! For instance,
check out my blog and you'll see what I mean. There is so much more
to this and why it works, but I hope it at least gives you ideas. Leave
    nothing on the table!

    I hope this helped

If it's a long term problem like weight loss, hair loss or something tough like that, I'd go for it.

    Otherwise I'd forget it.
