Google Privacy Changes
Kind of surprised I haven't seen any reaction to this latest twist on Google. We've been testing for the last 24 hours and the most distrubing thing is search engine ranking is now a whole new ball game.
We used three different locations (east coast, midwest, west coast) and did some basic searches on different target information. A couple were on our own keywords for websites that we rank in the top three positions.
The spookie part is that the changes on search results started very quickly. Another common element is the ads (adwords) that did show up started changing dramatically.
We really don't have enough data to prove or disprove anything specific yet but the trend has shown that you will now have a very hard time determining position in the serps since many users will get very different results based on their prior searches.
I have to believe this is all about pumping up adwords since now Google can let you really target down to the ground level. I think this will also increase ad displays, not so sure about clicks.
Probably have to give it a couple of weeks to see what the impact is on the tests and our own websites.
