Will you pay for something you can read online for free?

Hello Warriors,

I'm launching a new site, and instead of selling my ebook the
traditional way --> salesletter --> download, I plan to give
away the content for free.

But at the top/bottom of every page I'll include a purchase link
for the pdf version, this is for those who don't want to read the
entire information online.

Anybody done this before? Do you think people will buy the pdf
when they can read the information for free?

    Have you thought about printing hard copies and selling them? Perhaps that would be a better upsale for the free stuff you have on your site.

    Hard copies.. that is a good idea, but for the time being,
    I don't want to deal with physical product.. only digital coz
    that makes my life easier (or lasier )

    You could try testing out up selling the PDF version and include some sales copy along the lines of...

    "Purchase the PDF version..then print it and read it any time...any where...click here to order..."

    Then again, I hear IM'er Russell Brunson gives away a lot of his stuff for free...in order to build rapport and credibility w/his readers...could try this tactic as well and see how it goes.

    Just my thoughts on the matter...just test to see what works.

    Ummm... I hate to burst your bubble, but no, I would not pay for a pdf if I could read the same information for free.

    If you wanted to sell your info, I would suggest offering a small percentage of your info for free, and then charge for the rest.

    Basic sales techniques.

    I guess it would depend upon how long the text actually is. If it was 400 pages and each page was a separate web page then you may have a selling point - I've seen documentation formatted like this online that I would have loved to be able to download as a PDF.

    If there were a bonus you offered with the PDF such as a piece of related software or some PLR material that you made into a 2nd e-book that may make downloading and paying for it more attractive to your readers.

      There is still a demographic that loves print over viewing online. You could set it up page by page as a web page to make it difficult and let the reader judge if it is worth purchasing a hard copy.

      You could also do a teaser ... offer the first half free ... or whatever you choose.

        Make it difficult to view.. lol.. this reminds me to a technique I
        implemented several years back to make visitors click on Adsense
        instead of navigation links.. by hiding them, or make the site difficult to
        navigate..

      Bonus... what don't I think about that earlier... I can easily compile long
      list of related bonuses..

      BTW, it is going to be a 200++ page website.
