I got infected by a couple of virii (plural?) last year when I was searching for artists for my custom shirt sites.

I searched for a solution and I think Kim Komando did a radio mention of Sandboxie. I went to the website and purchased it. It has been one of the best things I have ever bought and I recommend to everyone.

I have visited at least 3 more infected sites since installing Sandboxie. As soon as I see the Java icon in the system tray and some virus come up I just close the browser and empty the sandbox. It is an amazing peace of mind when you realize you just saved yourself from a virus attack.

Here is their site (not an affiliate link)

Sandboxie - Sandbox software for application isolation and secure Web browsing

      SuccessCoach,

Are you able to get into SafeMode at all?. If so, download TDSSKiller from here: http://support.kaspersky.com/downloa...tdsskiller.exe

And run a scan with it. If that doesn't work, let me know so I can help you out further. I also suggest running Rkill before using TDSSKiller (this will stop the malicious process from spawning. Just don't reboot after you run it or it will respawn). Rkill can be found at this link: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.exe

Download these tools onto the infected computer, or your clean computer and then transfer them via a flash drive.

Here is a simple solution that will protect your computer in almost all cases without even risking your base system.

Regardless of what OS you are running Windows, Mac, Linux...it doesn't matter...download and install Virtualbox from Oracle.

Next, download and install an iso image of the Linux Mint OS based on Ubuntu.

Install Linux Mint as a "New Machine" on VirtualBox.

If you ever get a questionable email or want to visit a site or link that you are not completely certain is trustworthy, boot up VB and then Mint inside of it. Open a browser and open the link or site in question.

This process completely quarantines the entire process.

It doesn't matter it you accidentally click on the biggest baddest most malicious trojan every to terrorize the virtual world...it will first of all have a slim to none chance of even being a threat to an open-source OS like mint and in the one in a million chance that it could which it won't because nobody targets it as they would be completely wasting their time and they know it, even if it infected mint via sheer luck, it could never escape the VB quarantine because it exists on a virtual machine and isn't even aware of the existence of your root OS.

Works like a charm for me and everyone who has me investigate stuff for them.

But in one's ordinary browsing habits, they are using IE or Firefox or Chrome, etc. and stumbling upon spyware & viruses accidentally. I don't understand how your solution helps? Your idea works if one is pre-planning to click on something untrustworthy. Or am I misunderstanding you?

thesuccesscoach, you can try to use superantispyware and malwarebytes. Both are free, and you can download them while in safe mode on your computer. Then scan your computer with BOTH, one after the other. It works 99% of the time to remove spyware (which is what it appears you have).

In a worst-case scenario, go to geekstogo.com/forum. Experts there will assist you to rid your problem for FREE. I had a particularly bad infection once, and an expert on there worked with me for nearly a week to look at reports, download programs etc. to help my system. It was a lifesaver.

(sorry I can't give you links, I don't have enough posts yet)

        Richard,

You could also use NoScript for Firefox. Works like a charm for me. It's script blocking software that allows you to also specify sites you trust.

          Hi Warriors,

I know it doesn't help with the virus removal, but I just thought i'd mention that I offer an online backup service.

You can backup all your PC's & Laptops and there's no limit on the amount of files you can backup.

Once your files are backed up, you can access them from any Computer.

          all the best

          Alan
