When you plan to publish an e-book, or any book, you should begin marketing pre-launch. However, since that advice is past you now, I advise that you get to work submitting articles to relevant niche sites.

Tip: When you publish your next e-book, if related, make sure that you name them part of a series so that Amazon will suggest them to buyers.

    Good luck with your e-books.

Do you also have a print version of the book? You can use CreateSpace or Lulu. I think this is worth doing so you can order a few copies and do a free book giveaway contest on GoodReads.com. I did that for my own book and nearly 1,000 people signed up to win a free copy. Almost all of them wrote reviews on GoodReads after receiving the book as well, and the other people who had entered the contest added my book title to their "to-read list" after the contest ended!

To do this you just need to setup an author profile on GoodReads, which is pretty easy to do. Then add listings for your title or titles.

You can also try pitching bloggers who cover topics like cooking or food or whatever, to see if they will review your recipe book. I had some success getting reviews from book bloggers.

Feel free to check out some more of my ideas over on my Squidoo lens about promoting your books online.

      Two things.

      1. One of the best tips I've seen on promoting a book.

      2. In my opinion, you should just use the signature field to promote your lense rather than always linking to it in your main post. I think I've seen you do it before, if I'm not mistaken, and it's considered self promotion and can get your posts deleted if you do it too much. But your signature is there for a reason, use it! (you already are, but you can use five lines there)

go to cooking forums and write a forum signature relating to your book, then make some posts and if your helpful people will more than likely check out your book.

Market it the same way you would market anything. But Amazon gets so much buyer traffic on a daily basis, that it can be a great way to earn sales automatically... and alot of them. But you have to remember that not everyone has a Kindle. So you can promote it, but keep in mind that alot of people wont be qualified for this offer since they dont have a Kindle.

Make sure you link your books together inside the books. This makes it easier for your readers to see everything you release. You can purchase a domain and use simple redirects to handle this so you aren't constantly updating old titles as you release new ones.

I would also set up an email list and have a page in each book devoted to letting your readers know about it. This way you can begin each book with your own marketing push.

Anyone can read a Kindle book. There are Kindle Apps for the PC, Mac, every Apple Device and Android Devices. Your market is pretty much unlimited if you publish on the Kindle!

Excellent post Ashly! I also have to say that I found your Squidoo Len's to be most useful.

      A lot of people?

While Amazon does not (and never has) release exact figures for the number of Kindle owners it's estimated that this year they will sell an additional 26 million units (source - Kindle Sales To Grow 48%, Contributes 10% of Amazon revenue | Online Marketing Trends) . In addition you can get a FREE Kindle reader application for the PC or Mac, as well as for iPad, IPhone, Blackberry and Android tablets.

      Amazon.com: Free Kindle Reading Apps

So when you add up the Kindle, PC, Mac, tablet and smartphone owners it would seem to me that very few people would not be able to take advantage of the offer.

One other piece of advice for the OP:

You can use things like Press Releases and social networking posts to promote the book, but be careful - Amazon is apparently NOT fond of seeing the same content duplicated with multiple links back to the product page and can even close your account for doing it.

A way to get around that is to link those press releases back to a blog or web page you have setup to promote the book. Then you just link that page back to the Amazon sales page(s).

Best of luck with your book!

    1. Set-up a website to be your home for everything you publish.

    2. Set your Amazon Authors page, along with setting up a blog there. To let people know what you're working on next.

    3. Add a promo page in the back of all your books to get people to look at other books to have written and to get people to check out our website to keep them interested in your work.

    4. Use and About the Author page to let people know more about you.

    5. Book forums, too many to list. Social (tweeter/facebook) for releasing news to your fans.

    6. KDP Promos for getting people to download your book. Hopefully you will get a few reviews from your efforts and increase your books ranking.
