Hey warriors,
I just woke up this morning, and I have about 3 pages full in my gmail account of "new twitter followers" and most are sending me an automated DM to check out something they have. They're all different, but in the same basic format. I deleted them all... and then logged back into my email about 15 mins later and I have 5 new ones. Is there some sort of crazy new twitter spammer software on the market? I think I'm turning off my email alerts. I don't know how they're doing it because I don't think I even have auto-follow enabled. Weirrd.... -Sean |

I was wondering what the point of spamming Twitter was in the first place.
Most of them are banned as soon as you look them up. What on earth do they gain from calling themselves Frank_Kern_ or EbenfPagan__ ? |

If they're sending you a DM then you've got autofollow turned on somewhere. You can't DM someone that's not following you.
So it's not spam. They followed you, you followed them back and got their auto DM of new followers. I suspect you followed someone very popular, and they're just following that person's followers. |

Hmm...
I do think somethin is goin on. I'm getting DM's that lead to a twitter spamming software thingy. They say "19,530 new twitter followers in 30 days? Check it out: *Insert sales page link here*" Wonder how long that will last... -Sean |

It's viral software created by a guy who is hoping to increase the number of his twitter followers. People have actually signed up for it and they have not seen any increase in new followers.
There is also a hacking virus on Twitter that says "don't click here." When you click there, it logs into your account and puts the same thing into your stream. The admins at twitter are aware of the hacking and are taking steps to address the problem. Be careful of who you give your passwords to on twitter. Linda |

19,000+ twitter follows in a month? Sounds a little fishy to me. But like they say, if it's too good to be true it probably isn't.

I can't believe I fell for this one...I was still groggy and it sounded like an interesting concept, so I was like "what the hell!". Now this creature has my Twitter ID is going to spam the world under my name. It's no different from the viruses everyone is getting that auto-generate email from your account....this will get ugly as it grows.

Some like it, some hate it. Some of the biggest names in IM are using it and like the idea. The OP is obviously talking about an issue unrelated to tweeter getter. | |
