I've never built a list before. Where do I begin?

Okay so I've been involved with internet marketing for over 10 years now. I've been very fortunate, I haven't had to work a traditional 9 to 5 during that time.

The one thing I do regret is that I never took the time to learn how to build a list. I keep hearing that the money is in the list....I believe it but how do I start?

I believe this is a novice question but that's where I'm at with this.

You're a War Room member Bill...

...I'm sure if you use the Search Function, go to Advanced Search and type in there List Building and then select the War Room from the drop down menu, you're also bound to find the information you're seeking from a kind hearted Warrior who has shared the info you need for free.

Here you go, let's make this easy for you...

17 threads containing List Building in the thread title...

Thanks Mark, although I am logged into this site each day, I haven't been active here in quite some time. I totally forgot about the war room(silly me).

You're right, the war room is loaded. I've found tons of great info there in the past.

Marks has really laid everything out in those searches for you.

The basic skeleton most people use to create their list, is to give away a freebie in order for a visitor to subscribe to your list, so there is incentive for them to be added to your email list. Usually this is done via a squeeze page, so depending on what niche you're in, you will need to create a free product, and get traffic to an opt-in page (squeeze page) and start building your list. Then you can use relationship marketing with your list, to build trust, honesty and rapport with them and promote paid products to cash in.

But it's up to you what you do with your list, this is the simple skeleton you can use to actually get subscribers.

With list building, there few/no hard-and-fast rules for the simple reason that you're dealing with people (never lose sight of that) and everyone's different. Human psychology is a complex beast and small changes can make a rather drastic difference to your bottom line, so test rigorously but use common sense and don't attempt to abuse your subscribers' patience. If there's one thing we surely all have in common, it's that we don't enjoy being taken for fools.

Test different ways of capturing subscribers (i.e. different opt-in formats, positions, incentives, etc), optimal mail-out frequencies, how your subscribers are best addressed (by name or not?), the length and type of emails to which they're most receptive, etc. This is just the beginning.

Don't try to be psychic. Occasional polls and surveys are a way of profiling subscribers (offer genuine incentives for them to be filled out, if you want) and can be an excellent opportunity to turn monologue into dialogue, which is important in relationship building.

Above all, have fun with it! Your job is to endear yourself to readers by setting yourself up not only as an authoritative source of information but also their loyal servant. If you remember that it's all about reciprocation, not manipulation, you'll do right by them and your lists will prove to be fruitful long-term assets.
