How to monetize my website

Hello everyone, I have been lurking for a while and have a few adsense sites up making a few dollars a month based on what I have learned here. I have one site up that has been taking off lately compared to my other sites. It has been up less than two weeks and is in the fitness niche. I threw some amazon affiliate links and ads on it and have had a few hops but no sales. What started as just trying to compete for a keyword has now taken another turn.....I actually have real knowledge in this area and am able to sit and write articles from my head at will (I have a lot of rants to get off my chest) I have started to write an ebook with the intentions of giving it away for free to build a list, just like everyone suggests. The problem is as I am working on this idea I have realized this is a damn good ebook and I am now stuck. I was wondering what some of your opinions would be to monetize. Here are my ideas-Give the ebook away and build the list.....Follow up with another ebook that I could sell based on the list and the success of the first ebook.

Sell the ebook for a price- offer up a free download of a teaser from the ebook to build the list and market the ebook later

Give the ebook away for free but use a content lock on exclusive videos for people that have bought the ebook (they are instructional and helpful)

My gut tells me to just give the darn thing away and build a list, but I don't want to miss out on sales as I am working really hard on this and I BELIEVE IN IT. What do you think? the site is howtolosebellyfatforwomentips dot com . I am not trying to spam I am looking for honest opinions from more successful people.

that's a hard one. If it's a really good book that you have poured your heart and soul into it's hard to just give it away.

I like the idea of giving away the first few chapters for free as incentive to get on your list. If they like it, they can buy the rest.

Mike, thanks for the quick reply. I guess the problem I am having is that I designed this ebook and it contains a workout that actually is worth people buying. I have written all the content myself as I have a master's degree in coaching and education and I feel it is better than a lot of the clickbank products out there. I started writing the ebook with the intent to do exactly what you said to do....hook people into buying clickbank products through a list. Should I abandon this to pursue what could happen with my ebook? The site has been up a little over a week and the feedback has been amazing.

I say give it away or a portion of the book anyway. After you build your list then sell them a more detailed version.

Fitness is a tough niche, tougher than IM if you ask some people.

Unless your book is a huge success and adds tremendous value to people's fitness regiment, no one will find a reason to buy it, even if it's cheap.

Give it away, then promote something else.

Eric, I don't doubt what you are saying at all...I guess I am just getting a bit ahead of myself thinking this could be the next big thing. Looks like I am leaning toward giving this away for free and build the list.

It would be best to build your list. Like you said, give them a teaser of what your ebook will include. That way, if they are interested, then they will buy the whole thing. It will show that you provide great value for free, and even better value for the paid version. Just make sure that the free version is of great value which they can use.

The other thing could be, sell them a chapter or two. If they are happy with what they read and don't ask for their money back, then the remainder of the ebook's $$ value will be automatically deducted from their account, and they will get access to the rest of the ebook. Not sure if this is possible as I've never done it myself, but it would be like a timed upgrade option.

Or, have a Free, Bronze, Silver and Gold ebook option. All at different prices and all have different information included. Otherwise, your Free ebook could be like a bonus when they buy the whole thing.

Hope this helps or at least provided you with some more options.

This definitely helps, I am assuming that people will even want this thing even though I think it is great. Your advice makes a lot of sense and I can test the waters and find people willing to buy and interact on the site. Once I get a targeted list that will buy I can start to make money...correct?

I think you should sell it cheap and build a list from there. At least it will eliminate people who aren't really interested in buying anything.

Write a simple 10 page ebook, something top 10....... Give that away for your list. Make sure it solves a problem in your niche or defies conventional thought.

Then sell your ebook for depending on its length:
    30 pages - £7
    60 pages - £27
    100+ pages - £67

To get your list used to buying from you sell them the cheapest one and work your way up to the most expensive over time, I generally get to my third product after around 8 months to a year (send them 2 value packed but short emails a month and amp it up around product launch time), then after that I offer a membership program for £20 a month.

I understand that you think a list is important, but.....

A list is useless to you unless you have something to sell to them so don't give them your best product for free.
