Whats your preference for EMD?

What do you prefer and why?

1) CITY + keyword
2) keyword + CITY

I tend to pick #1 most of the time.

    Whichever has the most monthly searches and least competition, having a preference is pointless if it does you out of potential visitors.

    always go with the keyword being as far to the left as possible. i.e. keywordCity.com

    The farther it is to the left, the more relevant google seems to think it is.

    You can also use the google keyword tool to do an exact match for your search terms to see which version gets more searches.

    My guess is that more people search for keyword + location, or something like autorepair in San Diego rather than San Diego autorepair, but check this out to verify in the keyword tool.

    I've read about this in the past. If you rank for CITY + keyword because of EMD you will partially less rank for keyword + CITY and vice versa. The reason why I like to use CITY + keyword because I subdivide a large city into individual neighborhoods. I like to identify it by location first and dont use additional words like "in". Additional domains after city / keyword is another story. If you want you can own all combinations of domains for a specific niche for ~$100/year.
