Hi Warriors:
I need your opinion on something. I have a landing page where I offer a free report if the visitor opts in to my mailing list (obviously)... However, when the visitor types in name and email address... And hits SUBMIT... The visitor is not taken to a "Thank You For Subscribing" type page... The report immediately opens for them in PDF once they hit the submit button... But... In the visitor's email will be a confirmation email... Do you think this is a good idea... to have the report open after the SUBMIT button is pressed... or should I design a "Thank You" page of some sort with the PDF link in it? Thanks to all that respond. Your opinions are appreciated in advance. Pavon |

If it's a short .pdf, I usually deliver it in the first e-mail, with instructions on the thank you page for confirmation.. this ensures a higher confirmation opt-in rate, or at least, it has done for me.
If people are given the opportunity to get the .pdf without confirming, they don't need to confirm do they? Just my opinion... Peace Jay |

I feel you're taking away the choice of your subscriber to handle the PDF in the way they want.
Personally, I always right click PDF links and download them before opening. I could maybe understand opening it immediately if there is a benefit in doing so. But if there is no real reason for doing so, why do it? Cheers, Neil |

Thanks JayXtreme and Neil Morgan...
I'll get back to work and design a "Thank You For Subscribing" page or something of that nature. I appreciate the responses you guys gave to help me with my dilemma. Pavon |

I think you should let them confirm before they recieve their free report. Otherwise, why would anyone bother to confirm once they got what they want already.
Unless of course, it is single optin you are using |

Panondunbar,
Funny, I just wrote about this type of material on my blog. Check it out. marketingwithpaul.com The Triple Threat Affiliate part may help your email marketing campaigns. Yes, making your PDF pop up right away means they don't have to confirm for their free gift, but I say make it easy on yourself and just turn off the confirmation part in your autoresponder. I have found that I can build a bigger list if they don't have to confirm. Some people are just plain lazy or won't even bother to do so. Some may argue that making people confirm builds a higher quality list though. ie. no fake email addresses. I am, however, not concerned with this for me. So, if you leave the PDF pop up just the way it is the turn off the confirm, but if you want them to confirm then definately don't give the freebie first as they will not need to click to be on your list! Yours in Success, Paul Moore |
