Could this AUTOBLOGGING idea really bring in $500 a day?

I'm obsessed with Wordpress. I recently learned of the autoblogging technique, and began to think about what the possibilities could be. I came up with this idea (i doubt it's original), which you Warriors are either going to tell me is a load of crap, very risky, or something with a lot of potential. I need to know your thoughts! Ok, here goes...

1. Create or butcher an existing WP theme so that adsense ads are prominent on each post.

2. Install WP-O-Matic

3. Set WP-O-Matic to automatically create posts from RSS feeds of, let's say, MOVIE REVIEWS...

I would then have a site full of lots and lots of movie reviews, surrounded by adsense ads. I could then write articles and post to directories & generally build backlinks to my site, to build traffic, and then hope people click on the ads. My concerns are...

1. The legality of basically ripping off content from other sites.

2. Will Google spot what I'm up to and stick me in the naughty bin?

I've yet to actually begin any autoblogging projects, and I'm worried about the whole duplicate content thing. I understand that if the content on a site isn't particularly compelling, readers are more likely to click away via an adsense ad - wp-o-matic posts dont look very pretty so this might help with this, possibly, i don't know.

So, is there anybody out there who has tried this kind of thing, and what of results have you seen so far? I could set up a site like this in less than an hour (once the domain & hosting has propogated), I'm itching to get started, but if enough people can convince me that its a waste of time and definitely a bad idea then I won't bother

You should use a magazine theme like Revolution2 or WooThemes Demo and organize the duplicate content in a unique way by pulling in useful content in the form of news, videos, and articles from a variety of different sources you can become somewhat of an authority in your niche. How much it makes all depends on how much value you provide to users and how targeted your offers are.

The adsense movie reviews site method you described probably won't pull in much money because

    1) The clicks aren't worth that much in the entertainment niche.
    2) There are already plenty of these kinds of site in that niche.
    3) The traffic in the entertainment niche converts very low.

You'd get much better results using the automated blogging method if you promote related affiliate offers and create a one stop portal for a tightly focused niche. Go into niches that have plenty of money being spent on products and set up one of these niche portals and "rinse and repeat" the process flip them or whatever you want.

I'm going to be the one to say it's pointless. It's pointless. You'd get better results from doing your own content, instead of massive content spamming the search engines with other peoples stuff.

I leave it up to Akismet to block out most of the auto blogs that pull my content and do a trackback on me, this way I still get the backlink and exposure while the auto blogger gets nothing in return.

I agree. The legality of ripping off of movie review sites (or any other site) is sketchy at best. As for Google, they are pretty good at noticing poor-quality content, so I'd say there would be at least a 50% chance that they would put you in the naughty bin.

google are good at spotting non-unique content

they couldn't spot 'quality' if their nerdy little lives depended on it!

OP, just my opinion, but I used to build sites liked that and it used to work.

Note the word 'used'. It doesn't anymore.

Because Google is good at spotting unique content

It works but in order to make $500 a day, you literally need 1000 autoblogs

Sure Google may be good at spotting unique content, but you can get just as much traffic from Yahoo, MSN and 2nd tier search engines. Don't limit yourself to just Google.

There ARE ways to get unique content. Its something i am sitting on right now, still need to do some brainstorming. Just: Don't go on GOOGLE and look for "unique" content.

if Autoblogging is "so bad" as you all say, explain to me why my simple "Trends" Blog WPTrends - HOT Breaking News is indexed with 1200+ pages right now, this with primitive RSS feeds.

or site:blog.promisia.com NITRO RSS - TOP NEWS and HEADLINES which is nothing more than a garbage site

Dont expect to make thousands/week with autoblogs, but thats not even the point.

The point is that you can make "some" money using adsense or clickbank (as on on Internet Marketing Bits) and the fact that you can make such a site in VERY little time.

Even if it only makes $2 day....make 50 sites (which SOUNDS lke a lot but its doable in very resonable time. I make a WP blog in 20 mins, even shorter, like 2mins using Edna's wpmanagerdx software)

50x$2 measly adsense change is still $100/day == approx $3k/month from autoblogs.

You guys are thinking way too negative

I did some experimenting with an autoblog in the "personal loan" niche last summer, and I was getting some big affiliate referrals, probably averaging to about $10 a day. Not a huge amount, but it's always nice to make some extra cash. The auto-content was all completely unique though, so that may be why Google was so fond of it.

Hi George I was interested in your comment about Edna's software, it looks useful. Can this be run from different hosting accounts or are you restricted only one host?

I would assume you can't run it on the free wordpress.com site, it has to be your own hosting?

I think if you can set up a site as quickly as you say, I'd just give it a try. It seems to me you would have very little to lose and who knows, ....if it works you could quickly replicate it.

think of autoblogs as a tool. It gets interesting if you have many (20+) over multiple IPs and interlink them.

I also made kind of a "network" with one "main blog" which feeds other "slave blogs" via RSS. And then i submit all those feeds with RSSbot. Things like that.

madison_avenue - you need to have a hosted blog to do this type of thing, rather than a freebie.

I've just built an autoblogging site in the property rentals niche.... will post results (if any!) here

    madison,

right now i am on two hosting companies. That tool connects to the hosting via CPanel - SOME hosters have this feature off because of security reasons.

Eg. from my OTHER host i cannot connect to hostnine CPanel...but from H9 i CAN connect to my other host as well as everything i host on H9.

So....i installed wpmanagerdx on H9 and can make blogs on ALL my hosting. It takes 2mins to make a blog.

Thanks for the reply George. That's a great tip: i.e just ensure that one of your hosts can run the software, all of them don't need to. It looks a great time saver.

I look forward to see what happens!

Even though I hate the very idea of autoblogging, I bought a .info domain to try this autoblogging trend out to see if it actually works like people state.

Also going to use it to mass link to my webmaster blog.
