New Internet Marketer - Advice Greatly Appreciated

Hello Everyone,

I came across Internet Marketing about a month ago while doing some research about MLM/Network Marketing businesses and have become very excited about the opportunities that are available out there. For the last few weeks I have been flooded with information from different sources and I am beginning to see things coming together and clicking for me as far as the actions needed to have a successful business.
One of my minor setbacks has been I was laid-off about a month ago because my company didn't have work available and although that has given me a sense of focus on succeeding in this new business venture, my budget is super tight and I have been limited to doing free classifieds and other free marketing strategies in order to promote my business.
I am confident and have the mindset that I will succeed in this business and would appreciate any advice as to additional strategies that I should implement with my tight budget in order to insure more traffic for my business.

Have a Great & Successful Day!

Jason

    Don't get overwhelmed.

Separate out your studies into two basic categories:
    • Learning how to PERSUADE people in an honest way.
    • Choosing a technology (blog, website, etc.) to communicate your messages and focus on that until you master it.

It will take YEARS to master PERSUASION.

The TECHNOLOLGY you choose will probably change beyond recognition over time so learn to stay nimble and keep open to new technologies without becoming too distracted.

I like to let the world experiment with new technologies for a while (Twitter for example) before I jump in and start learning it.

If I were starting out today, I'd learn blogging. Google seems to love blogs for some unknown reason.

Good luck! Internet Marketing is the BEST!

    Hi Jason,

Welcome to the world of internet marketing - it sure is a fun way to make a living :-)

I started out in this business nice and slow...started a free blog (through Wordpress I think) in a niche that I knew quite a bit about (this meant that my learning curve was restricted to learning about blogging and internet marketing - not about the niche I was marketing in) and started doing affiliate marketing (marketing other people's products and taking a percentage of the sales price).

For me, this was a great way to learn the ropes, and not have to outlay a huge amount of cash (although I did buy a few great ebooks to help guide me). I quickly outgrew my initial blog, but it had provided me with enough cash to be able to invest in expanding my business with my own products, domain names, webhosting etc. (out of interest, that initial free affiliate marketing blog still provides a few hundred dollars a month in income - and I haven't touched it for nearly 2 years!! You've got to love passive income!!)

All the best - you're going to have a great time!!

    Tasha

I would recommend you find a great team to work with. Also make sure your upline sponsor is there for you. I tried a few things and got recruited then that was it. never heard from anyone after that.

Then I came across the team I have joined now "Team Work Makes The Dream Work" Everyone in this team is very supportive. Have a weekly radio show, 2 host call and share thoughts, and you can chat along. Those are motivational and helpful.

I will leave it at that. If you need more help, add me as a friend and message me direct, or get ahold of me on Skype or one of my networks. I will talk to you some more.

    Hi Jason,

Warrior Forum was my first resource about Internet Marketing. You can learn buttloads here.

If you're looking to start making money ASAP, and you don't mind spending some time writing for other people, this is one way to start out:

    Writing Articles for Cash

I posted a mini startup guide, about halfway down the page. (There is other good advice there too! I'm just still kinda proud of what I pulled out of my hat )

Whatever you want to go into, make sure you start taking action as soon as you can! I spent a lot of time sitting around reading. And while that kind of self-education is good, I could've started things a lot sooner than I did, just by jumping in and getting my hands dirty.

    Best of luck,
    Brad

Jason, you and I are in almost exactly the same situation. I lost my job just over a month ago, and discovered internet marketing whilst browsing eBay a few days later.

I've spent the last month absorbing information about it from just about anywhere you can think of, and I've finally discovered this place, which definately looks like a good place to be for us newbies!

I'm not sure what route I'll take in internet marketing yet, but I have a feeling I'll have some fun on the way.

    Hey guys,

Jason, you're in the right place, so don't panic. You can learn how to make a great living just by reading and learning right here in the forum.

A good place to start making money is article marketing. You could do a lot worse than check out www.bummarketingmethod.com for a pretty good startup guide, and it's free.

Once you've read that and get an idea of how the process works, come back here to the forum and read everything you can about article marketing.

Try not to spend any cash yet, there's plenty of free stuff to absorb first.

    I hope that helps.

    Good luck!

Jason...Listen... You want to know the BEST ways to market your ebussiness for free?

    Here you go:

    1) Post articles in Squidoo! If you post just 1 article a day in squidoo, then after a year you'll have 365!

Within these articles will be links pointing back to your site.

You should also do more research about how to correctly build articles in squidoo.

    2) Create a cool piece of software, and give it away for free at download.com.

This software will have to relate somehow to what you're selling. For example, it could be some type of customized calculator that helps your industry run more smooth....or, software that is an organizing tool..

Again, put a link back to your site somewhere appropriate on the software.

Hire a programmer at RentACoder.com to do it for you.

So, this technique isn't free, but it's cheap.

number 1 piece of advice is to take action. just start doing and do less reading/studying. you will learn many times faster just by getting out there and seeing what does and does not work.

forums and blogs should give you ideas, but you should TRY them....and i mean a concerted effort. always experiment, but just make sure you actually do something.

and be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will your online empire

Be careful not to make Squidoo (or anything else) your ONLY source of backlinks. Google sees right through it and it will come back to bite you. You have to have your links coming from multiple sources. Instead of writing 365 squidoo lenses, mix it up by posting articles on Ezinearticles.com, guest post on another blog, put a video on youtube, etc...and write lots of content for your OWN site.

      Hope that helps

    Hi Jason,

First off I have to say I love your attitude! You've got success written all over you!

Next - and I see this a LOT with the people I coach: you need to stay focused. You're right that there's a whole TON of information out there and if you try to immediately consume it all, you're going to feel like you're drinking water from the fire-hose! :-)

Chose a direction you want to move in, and then find someone who can provide you with a detailed roadmap to get there. There are LOTS of people offering information like this so just chose one that fits your style and your budget. Then, follow through on that plan - and this is important - while basically ignoring everything else... until you have the plan executed. Once you've done that, THEN start looking for ways to fill in the holes and gaps.

But the folks here have it right - the most important thing is to get started ASAP. Mistakes are easy to fix - but inactivity won't give you any results.

Best of luck in this exciting career, Jason!

    Hope this helped!

    - Glen.

Thanks for all of the replies to this post. I'm in very similar situation and I've often times blown up with information overload. It just makes you shut down and feel overwhelmed. I love the advice of less reading and more action. I guess earn while you learn instead of trying to know everything first is great advice. Thanks again.

    Invest in:
    1. Domain name
    2.Hosting
    3. Autoresponder service

That's pretty much all you need to start, just find a good niche that peaks your interest, make sure the crowd in the niche likes to spend money. Next, setup your domain, add a blog and add content, then build your list.

Keep doing this, add value to your blog, list, and build a great relationship with your audience, this can help you have lots of success down the line.

    Cheers,
    Magic

Well I have to agree with Glen on this one. You do have a great attitude about things. The first thing I would do is step back and pause for a second. My experience has been this. Some of the people in our business have been successful when they had their backs up against a wall like you.

Just don't rush into anything too quickly. Kevin Riley is starting a traffic generation course Monday. Its $30.00 and well worth it. For new marketers this appears to be the biggest obstacle to overcome in the beginning.

Learn how to stand in front of traffic and not was time chasing it. Anyway good luck.

Question about a domain I have. I have a domain from godaddy that I was using that was forwarded to another site. I now am wanting to use that same domain to forward to a different site. I changed the forwarding information to the new sites URL early this morning but it is still showing it parked by godaddy. Other than just taking a little longer to take affect is there anything else that I am missing?

It doesn't matter what business you are in, don't chase too many rabitts. I guess that is what everyone has been saying. I am new to this too and you definetley have to focus or you will get lost and worse quit.

With so many advises and opinions from all you friends here, there best thing to do is to start it step by step.

Never ever get into believing some campaigns or sales pitch saying such as "easy money", "watch the money pouring into your bank account" and other similar things.

Dedicate your time and effort if you are serious in IM.

    Hi Jason,

I am also in the same boat as you are. I am about to be retrenched end of next month. The only difference is that I have been doing Internet Marketing for the last 3 years part-time. In the process I have learned a lot (especially about what you should not do if you're on a tight budget).

If you need some quick cash, the best thing to do would be to make a Warrior Special Offer right here in the Warrior Forum. However, in order to do that you need to make at least 30 posts first (that should be easy). Then put up a WSO offering your services. It costs $20 to do so. If you are new in IM, the best thing you can do is article writing. So you could offer article writing services to other Warriors. This would give you immediate cash to help with living expenses. With that money you could also re-invest it into your business.

This is something I am doing myself so I'd like to pass this advice on to you.

    All the best!

You must have the attitude of failing forward. Whenever you start a business, think long term. Build assets along the way which you can sell off later, if you choose to. Such a product/website of your own, a list, etc.

Also build your business around your talents and skills. This forum is a good place to learn but you must know how to filter out unnecessary info and only focus on what you want.

Be persistent and never give up.

Everything works for making money online; however, most people still fail at it.
    • PPC (Pay-Per-Click) marketing works
    • Blogging works
    • SEO (Search Engine Optimization) works
    • Creating and selling your own product works
    • Flipping websites works
    • Affiliate marketing works
    • Article marketing works
    • Etc. etc. etc.

All of these work, but they only work if you do them when you are ready for them. Most people don't have the patients to do what's necessary to become successful. They learn a lot, but their education is full of missing peices so they can't seem to tie it all together and make it work.

I tried and failed at many things because I didn't understand the basics of online marketing which include traffic generation, persuasive writing (salesmanship) and conversion (getting your prospect to take action).

The thing that helped me learn the basics of all Internet marketing was article marketing. After years of trying every "Get Rich Quick" product article marketing was what started the chain of success for me that helped me become a full-time Internet marketer.

You are definitely in the right place here! I'm glad you found the Warrior Forum. There's tons of info and help here, but that can also be your downfall if you let it be. What I mean is . . . there are so many ways to make money online that if you try to follow everyone's advice, you might become confused about which way is best for you - and might not take action while you're looking for the "right" way.

It might not seem like you're in the best situation right now, but sometimes when your back is to the wall . . . it forces you to take action. And that'll bring you success every time! Pick a strategy, focus on implementing it, learn and profit from it.

    Best of success to you!

I am trying to use as many resources freely available on the internet to learn. It is easy to get overwhelmed at times as it is a pretty steep learning curve, for me anyway, but I will perservere. I am getting a little stuck with the technology side of things. I have been trying to navigate my way around Wordpress to create a blog.
