Which way would you swing?

I am going to offer a trial to my membership site in a giveaway event but cant decide if I should...

Require an opt-in before I give the payment button to setup the trial
or just give the payment button right away.

I can see a benefit in doing it both ways.

It's okay to offer an opt in, just make sure it isn't difficult to sign up to.

I do not see one top marketer not requiring a opt in before any body gets access to their stuff. I recommend the opt in first. "The money is in the list."

I actually just created a site myself,
and I have the straight up

    27 a month option
and I will be creating a "trial" option,
then testing the two against each other.

Then seeing which one does better for conversions and retention.

But each project is different, and each product is different...

So even with the trail option, I will test a
"5 dollars for the first 5 days"
and a "free for the first five days"

Even though personally I would like to charge something,
again, you never know what the test results can bring you.

So yeah, in closing... TEST TEST TEST!

For your situation, set up a redirect script, and test both options.
    then keep the winner

Why not swing both ways and see which way works better for you?
