Default Autobloggers I love you!

Well, I haven't been too active in the forum lately as I have been quite busy with my business, doing better everyday.

Yet that doesn't mean I'm not lurking and leaving a few replies to some posts every now and then. After all I still find this forum amazing.

Anyway, I thought I'd share this with you.

The latest internet marketing trend seems to be autoblogging (that and CPA). So I decided to go against the tide for a minute and said "screw it".

I wrote and outsourced a few hundred articles for a particular niche and I scheduled them to be posted every few days. I enabled pingbacks and trackbacks on my WP.

Each article is optimized around 1 long tail keyword with high search results and medium to low competition. With an average of 500 words each in case you are wondering.

Keep in mind that these articles are 100% unique, no PLR, no rewritten, no copies, no RSS.

Here comes the good part. Everytime one of my articles gets published on my blog (according to schedule) I receive some nice notifications in my inbox telling me that I have pingbacks.

I check them out and it seems each one of my posts/articles (or at least an excerpt of them) is being featured on several random third party autoblogs with links back to my site (per copyright law stating mine as the original source/author).

So I have to say thank you very much autobloggers, I am getting free traffic and backlinks from several sources.

Also, if you are familiar with SEO you would know the term "slave sites/pages". Yes, thanks to autobloggers I also have a few hundred slave sites/pages pointing back to my site and I got them for free without moving a finger.

Thanks again autobloggers!

- Dan

I would love to help you except I don't autoblog, I get autobloggers to work for me and for free I might add.

Heck, they don't even know they are working for me in the first place.

Why would they Marcus? If anything that will only raise your rankings. After all they are third party sites featuring your posts and recognizing you as the original source.

When I was beginning in this line of business I though to myself that article directories such as EZA are stupid for allowing author's articles to be used elsewhere as long as it points back to the original article recognizing the source and authour.

It is now that I came to see how Knight and his crew are geniuses. Just another reason for EZA being one of the 500 most visited sites on the internet. 100% original and unique content.

I've never understood why an autoblog would 'trackback either. Maybe they are just afraid to misappropriate your content with conviction...

In short, they have to, otherwise it's in violation of the DMCA and their blog can be taken down.

Well, they don't have to pingback/trackback, but they do need to point to the original source and author.

That's right, but the leverage they are providing me with is much stronger.

I give 1 person content, while an army gives me backlinks, traffic and slave pages.

Sure you could remove the hyperlink, but you still have to mention and recognize the original source, otherwise it's ilegall and you can be taken down with a simple DMCA notice.

Oh and don't forget a simple disclaimer stating that you can only use content from the blog/site if you link back to the original source. If you don't follow that you can also be taken down easily.

After all I own the copyright. Why would you want to break the law?

Technically, aren't they in violation simply by reproducing the entire text, without discussing it? Fair use laws don't allow one to copy any part of a copyrighted text unless it is being discussed/parodied/etc.

Technically yes, but the DMCA allows you to copy text from any given source provided that you recognize the source, mention it and link to it.

I'm fine with that, I help them, they help me more.

I love autobloggers too, but then I hate them also.

Like, they give me free backlinks and exposure, but I don't approve their trackbacks to be shown on my site, and just let Akismet filter them out as spam.

The thing I hate, is how I have to pick through 50+ trackbacks to approve REAL comments.

The DCMA may not have a provision against it, but US copyright law does. I would bet that many bloggers (including me) are fine with having their content posted other places as long as they get a link back. Several writers have said as much on this thread.

Still, unauthorized reproduction of any copyrighted work (and just about anything original written and published online is considered a copyrighted work) would be legal only when Fair Use provisions are applied. Simply citing and linking to the source is definitely not considered Fair Use.

Yes that is a pain, all you can do is disable trackbacks and pingbacks now that you know you are getting some love from autobloggers. That will stop those notifications and save you the trouble of archiving them as spam.

You're right and I agree, however you have to keep in mind that in about 70% of cases on the internet, US copyright law does not apply.

On the other hand the DMCA is international and recognized by all countries.

One problem with that, is then I can't do the ping/trackbacks from actual sites where I want them. :P

I've got another forum I am a member of that I approve trackbacks from.

Oh well, as long as they give me free exposure and backlinks, I'm happy with them sitting in my spam queue.

Que tal Bogotano!

Nice to see another Colombiano on the forum. Cool blog and site by the way, the layout was well done.

I also had some pingbacks from other sites and even Digg got me as well. At first I had no clue what they were and then I figured it out. Very cool!

If you don't mind me asking where do you outsource your articles?

Gracias,
Andres

autoblogs do work.. and they do work if you know how to structure them

if you have a blog making $1-2 a day - tyhen you have 100-200 of them and they are completley hands off.. not a bad amount of income that is hands off if you ask me..

No doubt they work and I have nothing against them. I even support them.

Heck, if you have an autoblog product coming out let me know and I will promote it.

The more popular that trend becomes the more powerful my unique/original content will be.

@Daniel: You should see the screenshot of my spam queue. This one site auto blogged my articles multiple times each using a different name for the author.

Too bad the blog doesn't exist anymore. Reported to host for DMCA and got shut down within 30 minutes.

Hehe, yes, it's that easy. I have closed down several sites from all over the world with simple DMCA notices if they don't link back the original source (my site) and recognize me as the original author.

As long as they do that I'm fine with them using my content.

I have never had issues closing down any sites with DMCA notices, even Chinese and Nigerian hosting agree to the DMCA.

But I know there are some shady people that like breaking the law for some bizarre reason, so I'm working on a script that will add the meta description of all my posts to Google Alerts so I know when someone is ilegally using my content.

And for the sake of taking down all those damn "pirates" I will give it away for free and give full rights away as well.

I would argue submitting your RSS pheed to 3rd party sites with the purpose of being syndicated, and where it can be picked up by others, is "fair use", and far different than just copying content and citing the source.
