Question regarding developer rights

Hi folks,

Interesting question here: I bought a number of plugins with developer rights on them. I plan to use them to entice people to buy my service to develop Wordpress based websites from me (I'm working on setting up the site to sell the service on and it should be live in another week or two).

Anyway, I was planning to offer a member's area which will be open exclusively to customers who purchased a website development package from me. I wanted to know -- with developer rights, can I put the plugins into the member's area for these customers so that they can download them if they accidentally delete them or can I only install it on their sites (presumably, they can just as easily download the zip file from their own servers -- this would just make it more convenient for them in case of a problem)?

My problem is I'm not clear if developer rights means I only have the right to install it or if it also means I have the right to make it available to customers after I install it in case there is a problem and they need to redownload it.

There is also a graphics package which I have developer rights for and so the question again arises -- can I make that available to my clients to use on the sites I build for them or do I have to put the graphics in for them and then leave them without the ability to download what they need later?

Again, this would only be available to customers who purchased development services from me so it's not like I'm offering it as part of a general membership site.

Any advice welcome.

Eric

P.S. I was also planning to put my vast treasure trove of PLR content onto the membership site and may eventually sell access to it by creating two tiers of membership -- one for customers who purchased a site from me where they have access to stuff I have developer rights to and another for those who only purchase membership in the membership site where my PLR content would reside. Of course, this all depends on the answer to my first question....

I really believe only the developer can answer this question.

Ask the developers, but I'd say in 99% of the cases, you cannot redistribute the plugins in this way.

You also have to be mindful of the market you're selling to. Most developers would be cool with you using the plugins in sites meant for the WordPress-ignorant offline business crowd... but if you're offering a service here on the WF, and that plugin is central to your service, you definitely need to get clear on things.

There is no single RIGHT answer. "Developer license" means different things to different people including the person you bough the various "developer licenses from.

You really need to contact each of those people and see what they meant when they sold you "developer rights".

Thanks folks for the info. I was hoping there was some generally accepted definition of the term "developer rights" that most people use, but I guess not. I think to be safe, I'll keep the developer rights stuff out of the membership area and simply offer to reinstall them for a nominal fee as needed. I still have enough PLR and MRR stuff to make a very good membership area so I'm not too worried...
