Offline business blasts customers with 10 OTOs

Hi Warriors,

I was watching late night tv, and saw a commercial for a product called fixit. This is a pen that erases scratches and dents from your car, I decided to give this product a try. They hit me with close to 8-10 one time offers for a bunch of useless junk, I kept pressing No, No, No.

It must have taken me at least an extra 5-10 minutes to escape their OTOs hell, I didn't buy even 1 extra product , their method was way too aggressive and annoying.

The offline world and online world are much more similar than we really think.

I agree totally. These days you order something off t.v. the company marks you as a lead for another product they or their partners put on the market. It is a vicious business world out here.

    Hi Mel,

That's fascinating. I think maybe because we primarily market online, we tend to assume that we're the only guys being bold enough to get in there and ask for the sales...

Still, 10 times is excessive lol...maybe the TTO (ten time offer) is the marketing technique of the future?

Other relatively well-known examples that I think fit this business model are Vista-Print and GoDaddy

Yeh Godaddy is big on offers when you got to checkout. But I suspect many buyers of domain names that are relatively new to the internet may buy hosting and what ever else they offer. So I gues they work to some extent. But they do annoy me when all I want to do is buy a domain and I have to keep trying to find the "No Thanks" link which is always smallest on the page!

        TEN

That's a lot but I wonder what their conversion rates on the OTO are.

How were the offers presented? Most expensive to least? etc.

I bought the Haan steam mop the other day...got hit up for an attachment, more extra parts, then offered a discount on a second mop. Even though I denied the second mop, I also had to deny offers for the attachment and the extra parts.

Then I got slapped with an extra $30 for living in Hawaii. boooo.

Still, I wanted that sucker and while I could buy various brands at local stores cheaper, none of them have a 100% money back guarantee. I wanted to know that if the product is a piece of junk and doesn't clean my floor, I can get money back.

    Love,
    Shannon
