Twitter - To seperate niches?

i am just starting to use twitter for my various projects. I have an account for my recruitment business that has been great for networking but that had a specific focus. As I've been expanding what I have been doing my account is getting more and more generalised.

So i have decided to split my accounts into the 3 that I was most talking about

1. Recruitment
2. Rugby
3. Writing (the one in my sig)

And whilst 2 and 3 are new they seem to be getting some followers and a lot more interaction than a general account was managing. there is of course some bleed between the subjects of the two but in the main they are pretty seperate from each other.

So a question for those who like to drive traffic from Twitter. Is it better to have a large general account with a larger amount of followers, but less targetted and with less interaction (and so less trust) but more people available to 'be driven'?

Or is it better to have small accounts with targetted followers and a lot of interaction and trust?

I'm still testing at the moment, but would love feedback from people who have used it more than me

    That's my opinion.

I've just started on Twitter. I should have done so before but never got round to it. I've clicked to follow you so I'll be interested to hear the result of your experiment. Thanks.

I also agree that smaller, more focused accounts are better than one general account.

It's like anything -- a focused newsletter is better than a general newsletter. A focused blog is better than a general blog. A focused forum is better than a general forum.

If I followed you on Twitter because I saw your writing posts, and then you started posting rugby posts, I'd unfollow you. I bet others would do the same (or at least they'd probably start ignoring you).

    My two cents.

    Cheers,

I can see where a small account with focused followers is a good thing, but here is my take on following as many people as you can find in your niche.

The more you follow, the more will follow you. Now you ask, why do I care? Well, from my experience, when you have a larger group following you, you tend to interact with a larger group more frequently. I had a small account for months, 200 followers or so, I recently (last 2 months) increased my number dramatically and I talked to 20 or 30 different people a day on twitter that I wouldn't of normally talked too. Now, 20 or 30 a day out of the over 2,000 that I'm following doesn't seem to measure out in the numbers, but I've been able to pick up leads and tips that I would still be figuring out if I hadn't been followed/following a large number.

ps.. Tweetdeck is a true time saver with larger groups.. you can search, group and sort.. fantastic!

I've been tinkering around with IPBSetup, but still love vBulletin. Which is the best, vBulletin or IP.Board?
