Constructive criticism please

I'm launching a CV writing service, and I am looking for some "constructive" criticism of my website, CV Writing Expert. I'm quite a newbie to the IM game, but a computer guy by trade. Any input would be much appreciated. Also, I would love to hear from anybody in recruitment/employment niche.

Not a comment on the website, which is fine. Just an observation. In a previous life (ie up to about 14 years ago) one of the services I offered was CV writing. It's popular, as you know, and interviewing the client was key.

Interestingly, counter-intuitively, and the opposite of what your site offers, I found the higher level job the person was seeking, the easier and shorter the CV was. Writing a CV for someone with little or limited job experience, took longer and more talking to the client.

The most time-consuming were the career changing CV's, where people had a tendency to start by telling me they had nothing to offer their new career! Those took a lot of patient talking to and asking "why" they wanted to enter their new career.

I really like the layout and design of the site. Additionally, everything loads really fast.

My suggestion would be to maybe get some testimonials from past customers, and add a few more posts to the blog. It's obviously a very new site, which is fine, but I think it would help to convey a bit of a history and instill some confidence if prospective customers had something telling them that you have had success doing this in the past.

I can't control the constructive part, that will be up to you, but here is my small bit of criticsm.

Overall, I like the site. one small thing is that the links to each level of service that are in the blob of text below the main picture need to look more like links and have a stronger call to action.

You can't even tell those are clickable links unless you hover over them. Maybe adding a small "find out more" next to each one? I am not a design guy, I am a functionality person.

Those are links that get right to the whole point of your site, and right now they kinda blend in with the other less important stuff on the site. Direct your users attention. People on the internet are sheep just adding words like "click here" will make a bigger percentage click here, so make it dummy proof.

The same idea applies to your links at the bottom of the page.

You have a CV writing service but you have spelling mistakes on the site. When you are offering the written word to people things like that wording, spelling and punctuation need to be perfect.
Really like the design and completely agree with what David Keith said.

  • As a CV writer, you've got the jargon down pat.

Writing sales copy and writing a CV are two very different skills. Your site text reads like a CV. Punch up your copy.

    Turn this:

"A great all round CV to help those in the early stages of their career to boost their job and career prospects. The most important tool in getting the job you want"

    into this:

"Just starting out? Get the job you want with our Bronze CV"

Less text is more on landing pages.
