"Sucker Free" Internet Marketing?

More scams depend on people's greed and laziness to work. The sad part is many scams (or pipe dreams) still thrive ... Chasing potential consumers out of the market. I know we've always had them and may always have them but ...

... Is it time for the Government to get more involved or can the market "really" protect consumers by itself?

The solutions government offers to problems like these are usually as bad as the problems themselves.

Maybe people should just stop being so gullible and the problem will go away on its own?

      I totally agree with you.

Titles like "$100'000 in the 30 days the easy way!!!!!" disgust me.

I mean, how in any logical way can there be an easy way to make $100'000. Especially in like 30 days.

And you would have to be an idiot to believe so. That kinda' income requires serious work.

You can't legislate common sense any more than you can herd cats.

People scream about their "freedoms and rights" whenever the government steps in - but whine about "protection" when they fall for a scam.

The best protection anyone has - is their own brain. If you don't use it - no one can protect you.

It always strikes me as funny how people believe that there's someone who will sell for $9.95 (or even $9,950.00) an easy way to make $100,000 in 30 days.

If I have a way to make $100,000 in 30 days, you know what I'm going to do with it? USE IT! Make $100,000 in 30 days, and repeat! If I can scale it up by paying someone to do some of the work, then great! If not, I can be quite happy "working full time" for a couple years at $100,000 a month!

Reminds me of a classified ad scam that ran a number of years ago. A man ran an ad that said basically, "send me $1 and I'll send you the complete story of how I made my first Million dollars"

When people sent him a dollar, he sent a letter back to them that basically said "I haven't made it yet, but you just got me one dollar closer"

No matter the century or age - people work hard to believe you when you tell them what they want to hear. Hope never dies...and it's marketable.

I agree with your point. But it's easier said than done. In a lot of cases I think gullibility is the price of not being educated. That takes time, effort and patience. Not the sexiest part of business or Internet marketing.

To everyone reading this post. Be honest. The possibility of fast, easy money is probably what first caught or held most our attention about marketing online. That is until experience or reality slapped us awake.

NO, if the government steps in to protect the lazy and the greedy from themselves, it will only get worse.

Any behavior you "reward" you get more of. What we need is more educated people, and that won't come from the government trying to protect people.

We don't need more government. We need to revive the opportunity for people and businesses to fail and suffer the consequences of making poor decisions.

We don't need any government intervention. The gov't will only suffocate this industry. Remember SOPA. People just need to be smarter about their purchase decisions.

No government control would ever stop rip off artists or those gullible enough to fall for schemes.

Both of these types have been around since the beginning of the human race and no government has ever put an end to it.

And sometimes I dare say, some governments have been the con artists.

Allowing government too much control in anything has only proven disastrous, it's all recorded in history books everywhere, you need only read.

I understand your point, in general. But personally I don't see helping to protect someone as a reward, but a responsibility. The people I help protect could be my future customer or yours. I agree we need more educated people and they all won't come from the government.

But as you know when an industry refuses to govern itself (control the scams) that always opens the door (or excuse) for the governement to come in.

We just need our own way how to be effective and how to work out in our own way. The most important in the long run is being resourceful and creative in order to find new methods.

You better watch those government boys and girls. They will drink your shine ... then take the still.

I see a lot of scam this and scam that post on here. Agreeably there are a lot of offers "too good to be true" online .. offline .. and everywhere in between.

Instead of writing threads and post and beating dime store war drums .. be a true Warrior. Set up a review blog ... expose the "scams" in a true review.

Be the change .... develop products that really work and promote them hard. Don't think for a minute it can't be done. Any product that delivers, fills a need, and gets a small foothold will draw affiliates.

When we talk about protecting consumers, what we are actually talking about is not letting certain vendors sell what they want, and not letting certain consumers buy what they want.

The laissez-faire approach which I tend to favour is to let everyone buy or sell whatever they want without restriction.

The idea is that stupid people who will buy any damn thing rapidly run out of money, which means all the vendors who rely on the business of stupid people run out of customers, and naturally enough they go out of business.

In addition, the social niceties come into play. Joe tells his idiot brother Bob not to buy certain things, and not to shop certain places, and not to trust certain people.

Meanwhile, honest vendors develop a reputation, as well - so Joe tells his idiot brother Bob that if he's not sure about something down at the market, and Joe isn't around for whatever reason, then Bob should talk to George about it because George is a good honest man and will give him sound advice.

The same will happen with stupid or bad or dishonest customers, as well. Vendors talk among themselves, and customers develop reputations, and eventually nobody wants to do business with the crappy customers who steal or cheat or return things after wearing them once.

The problem with the internet side of this equation is that all of the above pretty much requires that we have persistent identity for vendors and customers alike. Which means if we're going to have maximum freedom to buy and sell whatever we want online, anonymity - and much of our privacy - has got to go away.

You simply can't have a functioning society that doesn't have personal accountability and reputation. It won't work.
