Hi fellow warriors, I've been away for a bit, from here, touring and busking and would like to ask a question and help/ advice.

I'm producing my web based tv show again as a springboard to market my online magic magazine. ( I've mentioned it periodically).

Whilst my BIG focus is on getting the 'tv' show out there, I have on my back burner the magazine.

The domain is already purchased ( and DAP uploaded/ integrated ). I wont go off 'half cocked' as I have before( being enamoured with the technology of it all ) but do wish to start 'seeding' an abbreviation of the name as part of its marketing.

The magazine will be called MadMagicMonthly and wish to have the abbreviation 'mmm' displayed as the URL so as to try and create a level of curiosity.

There will be 1 page with an optin but the page will just have 'mmm' 'coming soon' on it, as well as an optin form.

As said, my focus is the 'tv' show but do have time just to 'salt' the curiosity.

Then if course a prelaunch sequence.

I'm sure it is possible to 'mask' MadMagicMonthly as 'mmm' but do not know how to accomplish this.

I have googled the question but am a bit lost.

Would anyone here know what is required.

As always, thanks and look forward to your replies.

Gotta love this forum.

Regards

James

When you type "mmm" in your browser's address bar, does it take you to your site?

    Nope.

Which means that's not the URL.

URL means "Uniform Resource Locator." It means "if you want to see this thing again, type this in the address bar of any browser anywhere."

The only thing you can show as your site's URL is, well, your site's URL. And since the first part of it must be your domain name, all you get to control is the rest.

Like CD said, you can't really "mask" the typing of the text "mmm" to go to a site. Not even if mmm.com is actually your own domain name.

Instead, you could register a domain like "GetMMM.com", "WhatIsMMM.com" or "WannaGoMMM" (you get the idea :-) and host it as a separate site, and generate curiosity that way.

Just remember: Making it too gimmicky (like 121212.com or other such "Coming Soon Next Big Thing!!!"), hyping it too much, not telling the visitor what is really being sold or promoted, or not giving them even a hint about what's coming, will probably kill signups big time.

For eg., if I somehow got pulled into going to a mmm.com, and it didn't tell me anything except "Sign up to find out more what is coming here", I can guarantee you I wouldn't subscribe.

On the flip side, it is very much possible to create mystery and suspense that way *if* you're already a big name in your niche. For eg., if Frank Kern or Jeff Walker came out with a site called "ThisIsGoingToBeCrazy.com" (which, believe it or not, is actually available as I write this!! LOL) and never said anything about what it is, and wanted me to sign up to find out, I probably would, because I want to know what Kern is up to, and I know it will be entertaining at the very least.

Thanks guys for your replies. Was just an idea to create a 'buzz'.

After thinking about it, I could just put up a banner.. No optin on my 'tv' show site and it's seed the name 'mmm' with the assistance of some other people I know in the same 'niche'.

Thanks again for your advice and help, really is appreciated
