Default Converting AVI to FLV

I just have a quick question on converting AVI to Flash. Did a search and no matches came up.

I recorded a video in Camstudio and it produced an avi file. Later I learned that I can also record to a swf file. When I tried that, I didn't understand the output. It gave me two files, one swf file which I couldn't open as windows didn't recognize it and one html file. When I opened the html file in firefox, I saw a blank screen but could stillhear the audio..

Is there a quick and easy way to convert avi to flash? Maybe I missed something in the camstudio program. I tried uploading an avi file to youtube and it took way too long.

The best one I have found for the PC is AVS4YOU (non affiliate link)

On the Mac I use Video2SWF which is perfect.

I've been doing this for a while now and have been using a couple of tools to easily make it happen. One fail-safe tool I used to use was FLV Producer. It's a pretty old piece of software, but it does convert into .flv format. I've also been using Prism Video Converter (free from NCH Software), lately and it seems to work REALLY well.

Finally - you should be good to go with using Camtasia - version 6 outputs an MP4 file - which is easily read by flash / .swf Just tell Camtasia during the "producing" part that you want to output to web and it should take care of the rest.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the great suggestions guys! I want to hold off on buying Camtasia for now as it's expensive. I'm going to wet my feet with Camstudio now and go from there.

Many video editing softwares have flash outputs built right in. Also, Flash itself will convert any video for you. Another option you may want to try instead of Flash is an M4V. This file type is used for viewing on iPhones and iPods, etc. It opens in iTunes and plays with excellent quality. M4V's are also very small files. Hope that helps a little

Here is the solution that will give you the best compression, the best quality, and uses the best codec on the market today at the best price available for the use of the vp6 codec:

On2 Flix Standard - Flash Video Encoding Software for Windows and Mac OS

No other avi to flv compression software will give you better results nor offers the vp6 codec which is the industry standard in that range.

Free solutions and the solutions already mentioned in this thread will all produce larger files, poorer image quality etc and not give you as much control over bit rates etc.

I echo Josh Andersons post. On2Flix is the way to go. It is the engine that is used by Flash.

The Standard version is good and is only $39.

I use the Pro version, but it is expensive at $249.

Cheers

Another vote for AVS4YOU! Simple and reliable.

Another free, yet powerful, video convertor is SUPER by erightsoft (google it). Their webpage lacks some serious design skills LOL but the software, if you can find on the page, is top notch! And can basically convert video to and from just about any format that exists.
