Squeeze Page Redirect to...?

Probably a simple question for you IM experts... but where do you usually redirect your squeeze pages?

So, for example, let's say you offer someone a free eBook for putting in their name and email and the opt-in button says "watch video" or "get eBook now"... where do you redirect the people after that?

I'm guessing to a page that tells them the content will be mailed to them? Or actually to the page containing the content?

My question is though, how can you assume that the person actually wants to subscribe to you and didn't just fill that out to get the eBook only or the video that was promised on the squeeze page? How do you let them know that you will be periodically sending them newsletters etc? Do you include that sort of information on the squeeze page itself or is the squeeze page's main job to market the eBook or video so the visitor is convinced to opt-in?

I understand having a subscription form on your website and convincing people to sign up to your newsletter -- but isn't the other way kind of manipulation? Should you give the user the option to subscribe AFTER delivering the promised product (eBook or video)?

Good question. I'd say most of the time, people are only interested in the freebies. That's why you need to think about what you're giving away. Make it leave them hungry for more. Make them want to follow you and want to listen to what you have to say in the future. Certainly don't leave a bad taste in their mouth.

If its a double optin then they get redirected to a page saying the link to the download has been emailed to them. Once they click the link in the email they get redirected to the download/OTO page.

Single optin gets redirected straight to OTO page as well as an email going out with a link to the download page.

Dont worry about those who do not want to stay on your list, give them your gift and let them go, they will never buy anyway. You only want people who want to be on your list.

I am always glad when I see people unsubscribing from my list. It tells me that the ones that stay have value and want to be on my list. I always remind my subscribers about the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email.

most of the time i use one time offers from my squeeze pages

this is optional when sending traffic from a blog but on paid campaigns i always use one time offers, upsells and downsells so that i can make my paid campaigns much more profitable

I redirect them to a thank you page that tells them to check their email inbox to double opt in for confirmation. Then they are sent a link via autoresponder, that takes them to a OTO, if they take the OTO they are taking to another upsell. If they don't they are taken to a downsell. After both of those processes they are taken to their free gift and/or purchases.

If you have a one-time-offer, which I'd recommend you do, redirect them to this link...otherwise send them immediately to the download page where you can recommend a good number of products.

I redirect them to the download page (after the confirmed opt-in). There's a OTO on the download page as well. That way I make a few bucks along the way and they get a good product for only $10. Kinda cool.

in all honesty it all depends n your model, you'll find everyones model for this is different. Some send to an OTO, others send to a thankyou page, others use emails etc. It all depends on your model thats all.

I just tend to send them to a welcome then thankyou page, and later use an autoresponder and start building my relationship with them until i feel they can begin to trust me in order to buy from me.

  • Whatever you do, PLEASE dont redirect them to an OTO page where the promised freebie is buried all the way to the bottom. That's disgusting. If you promise something, give it to them right away, and THEN offer them whatever OTO you wish.

QUESTION: My question is though, how can you assume that the person actually wants to subscribe to you and didn't just fill that out to get the eBook only or the video that was promised on the squeeze page?

ANSWER: You're not supposed to assume they want to subscribe. You're supposed to inform them BEFORE optin that you are going to subscribe them to a newsletter. It should be optional. Google is coming down more on this when using PPC ads. They suspended one of my squeeze pages from Google Adwords this week. After several emails they told me they want it to be optional to subscirbe. Something with a checkbox below optin to also "subscribe to my newsletter or special offers". I did not make the change to my squeeze page. It was only one page that was suspended. They let my others in the same account stay active. So I just popped up a new squeeze page on a different domain for these ads.

QUESTION: How do you let them know that you will be periodically sending them newsletters etc?

ANSWER: You can explain this in Terms of Service or Privacy Policy.

QUESTION: Do you include that sort of information on the squeeze page itself or is the squeeze page's main job to market the eBook or video so the visitor is convinced to opt-in?

ANSWER: Put it in the Privacy Policy.

    I hope this helps.

I build lists in different niches as my primary IM income now and that is where all my sales come from. There are a few who get the freebie and that's it but not the majority of my lists at all.

After someone signs up on my list, I send them to a blog post that tells them even more about the successes people are having with the product.

As for the other questions, in the first email, first off, give them what you promised them, then give them some information of what else you will be providing and a subtle teaser of what will be in future emails.

Then, make sure you give some valuable information so that they want to open your emails. When you do promote anything to them, make sure it is totally appropriate to the reason they signed up for your list in the first place.

Basically, if it is double opt-in you redirect to "thank you page" where it states they
need to got to their email and confirm subscription. Optionally, you can include OTO
on this page. After confirming, you redirect them to the free gift.

If it is single opt-in, you redirect them to free gift immediately, with optional OTO included.

Firstly, thank you all for the detailed responses, they were really helpful. Now, let's see if I got this right:

Opt-in page (with optional newsletter subscription Checkbox) --> Double Opt-In Confirm Email --> Autoresponder with download page (and optionally OTO?) + explain newsletter subscription on the download page?

How do you integrate the OTO on the download page? Via popup or just put the content on the page itself? Plus, I figure you can't really promote CPA offers on the OTO can you? Stick to Clickbank and other affiliates?

How exactly do you do the redirects (I'm not really a coder)? For example, OTO and then redirect to an upsell page if they buy (is there a script that confirms they bought and redirects)? Some sort of shopping cart set up I'm guessing?

Is there anyway to have this setup:

Single opt-in to get the download page (with OTO) in their email with an OPTIONAL double-opt in if they would like to subscribe (in the email as well as on the download page). I'm guessing just integrate the opt-in form into the email as well as into the download page (and set the second opt-in form to single opt-in setting)? Considering even though its only single opt-in, since they opted in twice basically (via form or selecting checkbox etc), those will be my true subscribers correct?

EDIT: Anyone want to recommend any WSO's that explain this process exactly -- would be great to read through it in detail and get the full concept understood.
