How frequently you send offer to your list ?

Is it right that if you send offers to your list frequently (either paid or free), they may unsubscribe at some point? Actually as a newbie in IM I am subscribed to few list and I get too many offers from some IMers that really sometime make me feel negative and I want to unsubscribe from them.
On the other hand I am trying to start building my own list, so want to make sure I know the right thing before I start offering to my list. How often you think is best to send offer to the list so that they feel happy to stay on your list for longer?

A person with a list knows that with any offer sent there is a percentage of people who will unsubscribe. To keep the numbers down you have to remember to offer valuable emails to people in between offers. This keeps them there knowing that your not just trying to sell to them but also to help them.

I think this is a case where experimenting is the best teacher. Once you have a list going offer 2 or 3 emails offering value and then send an offer. Record your data such as Number of people who opened it, the number of people who clicked your links, and the number of people that unsubscribed. Now try sending 4 or 5 emails with value and then an offer. Again record your data and compare. Do this over and over again changing the amount of times in between offers until you find the sweet spot. It wont be easy all the time but it will certainly be worth it. Good luck!

For any new subscriber i would usually send out 7 value added emails before presenting any offer. This helps to build trust and a relationship with them.

The trick is educating your list and letting them know you will at times be presenting them with offers. This shows complete transparency and helps to further build trust.

Then you need to decide how often you want to communicate with your list. There is no real right or wrong amount but I would say at least once a week.

I send about 4-5 times a week, 50% consisting of value driven free offers, with the others being made up of promotional materials to interesting great quality offers I found that will ACTUALLY be helpful to my subscribers.

If you want to make money from your list, then you must build a cordial relationship between you and your subscribers.

Keep your promotional materials light, creative and original. Many people are stressed out as it is. Getting a stuffy business proposal rather than a light hearted e-mail may just agitate them more. A warm friendly smile or banter is always more welcome than a serious business meeting or proposal. While you do want your customers to take you and your products and services seriously, you also want to show them that you know how to have fun.

      Once A Month.

One month I might send out a product of my own and the next month I'll send out an affiliate offer.

It's best to plan out your calendar so you know when exactly you're going to be promoting.

    Ok here is the thing.

Once a month is a waist of time, people will forget about you.

    Do not nag them everyday.

But do not leave it so long in between emails that people will forget about you.

Its hard to master, I think, but with testing you will come to understand this better.

I email members on our different lists every few days, to once a week.

You have the find the sweet spot between bugging the hell out of them and doing the whole once a month thing.

You do not want people to forget about you, and you do not want to bug them everyday like some of the idiot IM gurus out there. Fine tune and give your list good stuff too, not just swamp them with offers. Build trust and then when you email them, they will click and buy what you are offering.

And which arse did you pull that 'optimal' stat from?

The fact of the matter is that every list is different
and every list builder is different so there is not a
      one-size-fits-all frequency of contact.

For a start, the optimal frequency of contact for YOU
depends upon your list and how skilfull you are at
      e-mail marketing.

Its best to go through a promotion cycle. David Wood describes how he monetizes the list best in a video I have on my site. Basically in a promotional cycle it runs in a 30 day interval. You have a combination of value cycles and offer cycles.

For example you might have a period of 7 days straight of value and then 2 days of offers. Then back to value.

At the end of each month he will do a hard selling period of 3 to 4 days which will convert the highest because he has brought so much value throughout the month. That is not the exact description I'm just giving you an example.

PM me if you want the link to the video. I will be sending you first to a squeeze page and then it takes you to the video. (He doesn't talk about the promotional cycle until the 20:00 mark)

It varies for me with each list. I send less than most. In some cases just once a month with a "Big Sale" on one of my products. This seems to work for me.

Great reply from all of you. Thank you for the suggestions. I know when we add value for free in between the sales, it works best but yes, different niche can work in different way.

Other thing I liked by myself as a subscriber when the sender reply my question. There are IMers who never reply and I don't really like them. I hope you agree with me.

What I FORGOT to mention, is that you will have little hits and misses with this stuff.

You need to write down what is working what is not working, and keep doing the stuff that is WORKING!

The worse thing is getting on someones list and being bombarded with offers every 12 hours. You know exactly what I am talking about!!! **rolls eyes**

So try to treat your customers the way you would like to be treated. That way there is lots benefits for both parties.

It doesnt matter if you are affiliate marketing, or have your own product, you want to give value and help people first. Do that, and you are sure to see results. Then you can just build on that. :-)
