Is This Opt-In Method Shady? Please leave your thoughts

I've been with a MLM program for 4 months now. Just today I saw a guy who joined the 7th last month, already has over 600 referrals - and he topped the rank charts in no time. So I'm working on a more appealing way to build a downline. Free stuff. Just like people who harvest emails for a free ebook, I want to give away a very useful ebook. Not the ordinary 2-15 page ebook, but 234 pages of great knowledge! In exchange - a free membership.

Just need to find a gateway which requires people to type in a referral number.
So heres why I know they'll type in my number if they choose to - the ebook download link will be in the automated welcome message from the program. So if they want the ebook, they really have to type in the correct number.

The ebook is "Think and Grow Rich", and I know it sells great among other affiliates / IM'ers on the webshop connected to the program I use - thus I know that if people want the book, they must have some sort of interest in a money making program. Besides my website is about making a living online, so being there with no interest would just be silly anyway.

Any thoughts about this? My last 3 threads has totally been forgotten apparently, and I really don't hope it's the same deal with this one.

It really seems you're leaving out some factors in this equation. Like what does it cost your referral to enter this number, and how will free referrals otherwise benefit you.

It's free to join, so it only cost them a minute of their time.

This is how it benefits me: I send the ebook along with the welcome message, where I explain a bit about what they just signed up to, and some important links. Since it's MLM, they could actually risk making some money of they find the interest in it. If not - no problem, there's still a slight bonus for each referral I get nonetheless. Sorry for leaving that out.

I see nothing wrong with that approach. If I am getting it they will have to enter your referral number to access the content they want, right? Using a funded proposal is the top method suggested to MLMers. Jonathan Budd has a great funded proposal.

    Thanks for the responds.

About writing my own ebook: Tried. Wrote about 5 topics or so, about the program I use. Frankly I find it hideous. I've made it short, because I.. well, am writing short by nature. Bet ya I could rewrite Harry Potter down to a few pages - it's that bad.

Edit: TAGR + 2 more in a bundle with full MRR should get anyone who wants to earn some money act?

It doesn't sound like there is anything wrong with it. Such is apart of internet marketing. Problems occur online when people harm others and do things like lie, cheat, and don't provide the content they say they will.

If you're doing things right and honest....and providing the content you say you will, then there isn't anything wrong with it. Honesty is the best policy.
