Copyright on pictures of celebs?

I understand that there is copyright on almost every picture on the intenet. But I wonder, if I want to post a "news item" on my blog about a celeb and I want to add a picture. Should I really bother about the copyright?
Most fan sites post pictures and videos of there idol and I asume they don't pay for that stuff. Also most forums/blogs just post pictures and videos of the people there talking about. But I still wonder what kind of trouble I run in to If I post regulary on my blog about celebs and stuff with pictures added?

Can anybody tell me more about this.

Many, if not all celeb photos are copyrighted, either by the photographer or places like Getty images and other image services. Getty and other image services will aggressively pursue their copyrights, as will a lot of other sources.

You probably don't have anything to worry about. It's up to you if you want to risk it or not though.

Many celebrities and photographers are members of agencies who employ full-time staff whose specific occupation is to identify breaches of their clients' copyrights.

Some aggressive lawyers also employ people for the same purpose, and make their livings by intimidating people into paying liquidated damages/penalties rather than dealing with a lawsuit.

Your website and any earnings from it are not all you stand to lose.

Of the sites that you see doing this, remember that some will have permission, and others are part of the panoply of that kind of site that come and go all the time. Breaching copyrights is one of the reasons they can "go".

Just be aware that people posting in forums, so casually saying things like "You probably don't have anything to worry about" ( ) won't still be there "advising you" if you get into trouble, and it won't be their responsibility or their problem - they'll be off advising someone else, by then.

Being more of a solutions type of person, instead of telling you what you can't do, here's what you can do:

Go to www.Allposters.com and sign up for their affiliate program and use their images of celebrity posters. This way you're not only legal when using celeb images, but you have an additional revenue stream too.
