Questions, questions, questions from a newbie

Okay - I've been reading and reading and reading this forum. I've checked out books at the library and have read many articles online.

I am the type of person that wants to understand everything I am doing before I start something. I hate this feeling of confusion that I am having! It seems the more I read the more confused I get. On one post I read something that someone praises and another post someone is downing it. Not just here either - there are many contradictory articles on the web about IM.

My interests are technology as I have a degree in Computer Information Systems. I also have a huge interest in weight loss as my teenage daughter has been battling her weight for years for no apparent reason (rest of the family is thin and we do eat healthy). I realize the weight loss niche could be weight loss for teenagers - the technology niche is huge and right now I just got a new Kindle and absolute love it - I almost dropped it in a pool and was wondering about waterproof covers for it, etc. or anything compute related.

I have about 4 hours per day to spend on this and a few hours on the weekend. I want to make at least $2,000 per month at the minimum when it is all said and done (and if I am making more than this then that is okay too). I am starting to understand how it all works but the niche is where I'm stuck at. I don't want to do all of this work then end up not being able to sell anything. I'm thinking the teenage weight loss as this is a subject I know very well (and have many books on, etc.). I am thinking of finding a profitable sub-niche as my first step - going to clickbank to find a product that I actually believe in - setting up a website to promote the product. Am I thinking right here?

Ok your best bet would be to stop reading more........because in this business the more you read the more confused you will get. Focus on 1 method from CPA, SEO,PPC, PPV, Email Marketing, or Video Marketing. Just pick one from these and try reading gauher chaudry's CPA guide. Search CPAHotspot on google and download the pdf. He covers everything on Internet Marketing. By the way, Welcome to IM.

You have to select either or both of the following to succeed online :

      (a) Sell a product
      (b) Sell a Service

What are you good at ? Selling product or service ? Between the two, product selling is a better choice than the service.

Create your own website (free or paid) and select some good products which you like. I would recommend "International Calling Card" and "Web Hosting Package" which will give you good sales and in turn you would earn good money.

Most of the people here spend a lot of time in driving traffic to your website through SEO. While this is unavoidable, I feel this is something which can be dealth with at a later date.

Your challenge is to get customers who can buy products from you. There are some proven methodologies which will give you definite sales. Proven systems like Direct Mailing, List Building, Emailing, Telecalling and so on. Pulling out data for sending direct mails is possible and it's just that you need to know where to go and get these datas. Google search can give you answers for any question under the sky.

If you just follow this guideline, there is no investment from your side at all. You just need to invest your time and that's it. You need to invest money only if you are looking for a "mentor", else this can be done on your own and it is not a rocket science.

      Good luck

      Hello Wannabetn,

I completely understand ( i think ) where you are coming from. I too like to understand as much as possible before I act. I have to say however, that this is as much of an obstacle as it can be an aide in IM.

For me, I spent around 6 months 'understanding' and moving from thing to thing, method to method with partial action taken on each until I began to A) really understand and B) implement what I understood.

Here's a quick summary of what I 'understand':

      - when you are working on anything online to make money, it has to be approached as a business. this means you are working on it, not in it. this also means you set aside specific time, actionable steps and goals to achieve it. now you take action on those steps and thus, meet the goals. at some point, if you have a solid method, you will make money - even if it's $50 your first month. this IS success. it just needs to be repeated and then scaled up. success is a commitment to completion, period.

      - when working to make money online, it is necessary or at least helpful to have the proper understanding and consequent mindset that you are a marketer. you are not joe or jane trying to make money online, you are a marketer building sites, creating lists, selling products, giving advice - whatever it is you are working on. this adds to the business mindset of being a professional service or product provider and for me, completely changes the way I interact with what I am working on and those who are my customers. additionally, mindset is important in terms of staying focused and believing in whatever it is you are working on. if you have four hours, those four hours should be spent each and every day achieving the steps of your actionable plan once you have that in place, period.

      - it's not about finding the 'right' or 'best' method, it's about finding a method that resonates with you and that you can find multiple sources of info and steps of action for. then you basically have what you need. if you spend too much time here at the WF with the mindset of joe or jane trying to learn and make money, you will BE joe or jane trying to make money and not having the right knowledge or tools. maybe you'll be buying a bunch of things or tools to get you 'there'. but really, once you have the basic understanding, mindset, AND your method narrowed down, now it is just a matter of systematically taking action. from what you said, yes, teen weight loss sounds like something you could be comfortable with, so what types of methods might work? A variety, however, to me, what comes up off the top of my head is niche site building and then monetizing through/with a product or adsense. now, niche sites are a bit precarious now, so really, authority or just site building within your niche (teen weight loss) sounds doable. simply put, creating a blog/site about what you know and then driving traffic to it and monetizing it. but how? and do i need all these tools? and how do i get traffic and and and....

well, using the example of site building, you simply want to find successful site builders who offer wsos or programs that show how they have done what they have done (keyword research, site set up and structure, product selection / monetization and how they get traffic). there are a lot of them. personally, i would choose 3-5 and buy their $10 wso or guide. stay away from hype. then i would read all of them and put what i learned into my own framework of understanding and actionable steps and corresponding goals and timelines. then i would do it. might take me longer, might get stuck. that's ok. come back here and ask. you will learn as you go and there are people to help. you may be successful in 4 months or you may be successful in 12 months. who knows. but the only way to get there, especially for people like you and i that like to learn, is by taking action, period

conrad stuart is a successful niche and authority site builder. i believe he has a free basic blueprint available on WF. spencer from niche pursuits is a successful site builder using adsense. there are many more.

best of luck to you. success is a commitment to completion ( with the actual completion happening ;0 )

It doesn't matter what niche as long as there are people making money with it. Teenage weight loss might not be my first choice because teenagers do not have that much money to spend on stuff. Sounds like weight loss is the main niche you are going with.

Find a profitable sub niche. Start marketing. 90% marketing and 10% learning. Stick with one or two methods of traffic generation. Funnel your traffic back to a converting offer. If your offer is not converting keep tweaking, testing and tracking until it does.

When you get a converting offer, go nuts with scaling it up. Paid traffic is going to be the best source of initial traffic to test if something converts. PPC is the most targeted. Truth about abs and the diet solutions are evergreen products that will help any body in weight loss.

Presale those products to your sub niche. Remember the leaders take massive action even before they know whats going on. They make tons of mistakes just like you are going to have to make. Make the mistakes fast so you can get through them and learn from them. Its a gift and a curse to be highly analytical. JUST TAKE MASSIVE ACTION EVERY SINGLE DAY!

You are on the right track, but you have already chose two HIGHLY competitive niches. Can you make money in technology and weight loss? Of course you can and many are already doing so. However, expect to put in a ton of work before you see the returns because of how competitive it is.

My advice is to choose a marketing strategy before you move forward. Having a marketing plan is something most forget about and unlike "The Field of Dreams" if you build it they will not come without marketing.

"I am the type of person that wants to understand everything I am doing before I start something"

Seriously - give up now - move along the bus there is nothing more to see.

IM is a snake pit and you will never get to the bottom of it.

Best of luck if you decide to stay.

You are mentioning Clickbank as a source for finding a product. Nothing wrong with it, excepting the huge number of useless products. You should take a look at Amazon too.

First of all, find your market, your product, see the competition, your keywords, than register a domain name, have a host (different than the domain registrar), than work on traffic.
Keep in mind to determine if there is commercial interest, not only traffic! Use Microsoft adCenter Labs.

Because you want to start with affiliate marketing, first of all see Amazon, also look into CPA/PPA. Some places to see are AzoogleAds, MaxBounty,Never Blue Ads, Rocket Profit, Hydra Network, Copeac...
