Auto responder series v.s. free report?

I believe the free offer you provide to your subscribers is a very important part of your sales funnel. I think your free offer should be of high quality because it will determine your level of expertise and establish your subscribers trust in you. Your free report can also determine whether your future emails get opened.

So my questions are, do you want to lead your subscribers into a sale somewhere in or at the end of the free report?

If you put your best information in the free report, what information will you have left to put in your auto responder series?

What about just offering the auto responder series as your freebie and then promote your product somewhere during that series? Why waste good information on a free report if your promotion is coming during the responder series?

Thank you.

Yes, typically you'll want to pitch your offer at the end of the report...after they've gotten the value and they now trust you.

You can also offer a 7-day autoresponder ecourse too--this sets the expectation that they're going to get emails from you.

In your free report, you'll typically want to tell them "what" they need to do...and if they want the "how" they'll have to buy your product/service.

Obviously you'll want to save some content for your autoresponder series, products, etc...you don't want to give away the farm in your free report.

Kevin, this is the most direct explanation of this I've seen, yet, and it clarifies some questions I had myself. Thanks for helping out :-)

What about just offering your auto responder series for your opt in instead of a free report?

I recommend that you offer something that your visitor
can download right away rather than just getting an
      autoresponder series.

Instant gratification is something that's big online and
      offline.

People want stuff NOW, not just later.

Regarding what to put in your free report etc, make
sure that it creates a good first impression of you and
      your business.

You can always use your autoresponder series to refer
to content that you've already included in your free
report - to ensure that subscribers actually consume
      your free content.

And yes, your free report and follow-up series should
move people in the direction of buying your front-end
      product.

      Dedicated to mutual success,

I think Shaun makes a great point:

        People want instant gratification!

I would recommend that you offer both -

The Free Report gives them the instant buzz and your
autoresponder series educates them on why they need
        your product or service!

Not forgetting that you are also training your subscribers
to expect to hear from you with valuable content and
        product recommendations..

        To your success,

        Greg

The free report, audio or video is the incentive to sign up and the email course etc is the incentive to keep reading your emails.

If you do both well your subscribers are far more likely to respond to your offers.

With any marketing process you want to think through who your prospects are and what stage they're likely to be in the sales process when they get to a particular report or email or marketing piece.

That will help you determine what should be in it and what the next step is that you want them to take.

          Kindest regards,
          Andrew Cavanagh

            i do both,

autoresponder series and free report, both work just aswell, but online like shaun oriely said in his post earlier, people online want gratification NOW.

but I make sure that the content is of good value and that potential customers get value, so they begin to trust me. the most important factor is trust and building that trust, through autoresponders can work so eventually you sell to them your front end product, and get them in your funnel.

            as shaun mentioned earlier.

I prefer to use paid sales to draw in subscribers. You don't get as many, but they are proven buyers, not just tire kickers after free stuff. They have invested in their future and are serious. The price tag doesn't have to be huge, it can just be $10. You also open up the opportunity for affiliates. James Penn uses this method and gives 100% commissions, plus bonuses for achieving certain targets. He knows he will make his money back plus a ton more on the back end.

As for putting all your best information into the free report, why don't you narrow down the report topic. For example, if you are in the traffic generation niche, explain one method or if your in the affiliate marketing niche, explain one or two great list building strategies. If you don't want to sit and write a report, then outsource it. Or you could create a video/audio tutorial or interview.

True, but if someone passes on your paid report you won't have a chance to lead them to a sale with additional content.

In my case, both works very well.

I'll give out some free content (articles, video tutorials & free report) in my autoresponder series.

I'll put my signature (link to Clickbank products) at the end of all auto messages.

If they like me, some of them will click my signature & buy.

My guess is that you're in a very small but profitable niche. And if im correct, then congrats!

If you're short on promotional content for your niche, I would offer the free autoresponder series as the freebie, then take the info in your free report and use it as the basis of email marketing/autoresponder content. Then just lead them back to your sales page in each email.
