Press release sites...

Hi All,

I was talking to another IM'er recently who i happened to bump in to would you believe and he was saying that a great idea when you first get started is to post a press release about your new site on line!

Now i know this can't be a bad idea but the question is are there sites for this sort of thing or is it just the article sites?

Thanks all in advance for any help!

Steve

There are PR sites you can submit your press release information. They are separate from Article sites. Just google press release. Some are paid but there are lots of free ones also.

Two that I can think of off the top of my head are prweb.com and ***********************.

Press releases are for anything newsworthy. You can spin any content into appearing to be newsworthy.

we do press releases on PR web almost everyweek now. It is insane the results we are getting, but you cannot just post articles, it has to be news worthy and have a viral aspect to it.

People always say "it has to be newsworthy" but I'd really like to know exactly what this means? I mean, some of the crap I read in our local papers isn't exactly what I'd call "newsworthy" so what is?

If I launch a new site can I just write a hyped up article talking about the features it offers visitors and how it differs from the competition? Or does it have to be something amazing?

Are press releases a good way to build authority in googles eyes, via way of backlinks? Or should they ONLY be used for the viral aspect?

Just wanted to add that you have several alternatives for press-releases. From writing it yourself to leaving the writing, and even handling the media to agencies. Celente referred to PR web which focuses on distribution and collection of the results. The last bit was for me the most important one to consider when I picked my press release writer.

The moment a press-release has been put on the press release section of a media organisation is when you can put their logo on your site and say: "As Featured On"

Btw, the more you learn about PR the more obvious it is that you are dealing with fiction, and that your press-release needs to fit their narrative. Journalists are always looking for interesting stories that engage their audience.
