Why Does Ryan Deiss Hate Me?

I've never met the guy, but Ryan Deiss seems to be a fine, fine fellow. Has a nice family, probably goes to church, pays his taxes, and to my knowledge has never axe-murdered a family of five and chunked their lifeless bodies over a cliff.

But whenever he sends links to his videos, the video player's rewind functions have been disabled. In other words, if I miss something, I have to start the freakin' video all over again. From the beginning! This is crazy. And Ryan is the only self-proclaimed "Super Affiliate" who does this.

Why oh why does Ryan Deiss hate me?

I must be the the exception to the higher conversion rule.

I find the non controllable videos maddening, and unless it is something I have been waiting for, or already know I want, and I need to get to the end of the video to buy it(combined about 2% of the time), I close it immediately.

So for me, I'm closing it immediately 98% of the time, and when I'm not closing it, its not because of the video itself.

        SkiBum,

Don't take this personally but Ryan doesn't care what you think of the videos!

He doesn't care what anyone personally thinks about the videos!!

He's a "true" business man who looks at the clients he wants and figures out a way to get them, he is well aware he'll "lose" people and they'll get upset but that doesn't matter. He's focusing on the people that listen to him and will buy time and again.

You are looking at this from an individual perspective when in reality it's as big as things get (NOTHING is bigger than the internet!).

It's a conversions game not a popularity contest.

        "Just saying...."

        Cheers,

        Jamus

P.S. Now "Ryan" has answered the question can we close the thread?

    Rob,

So you watch it again and again and again... Then your actually self hypnotize yourself into believing what he says.

Ryan is ALWAYS testing and trying new things. That is what separates him from the rest of us. I think he spends around $250k a month testing.

If you don't like it I suggest you stop watching (or just buy the dam thing!)

    Cheers,

    Jamus

Pay attention first time round and you will no longer have this problem!

But seriously, I don't think there is any theory behind it. Just seems like a technical fault.

    I might be wrong though.

The dude spends $250 grand a month on testing .. almost positive he could afford to get the "technical fault" working correctly if that was the case.

Is there empirical evidence that disabling the rewind function brings about higher conversion rates? Because if that's the case, every super affiliate (or those with Earthly powers) would be doing it. I doubt that Ryan would be locked onto a higher conversion rate strategy that no other Super Affiliate has discovered.

But I could be wrong. Doubt it, but I could be wrong.

I should also say that I have nothing at all against the content of his videos. Some products seem to be good . . . other products not so much. I've purchased from him before, and been satisfied in the past.

This is just an observance. Wondering if anybody else felt the same way, or if I am just being petty. Or both.

      Rob,

Maybe it was because he is so good he'd know you'd create a thread about him hating you and we all could have a little laugh at your expense.

Been done, true, but it's been weeks. And never so humorously.

The concept of Ryan hating anyone is strange enough to buy the thread some space all by itself.

Yeah, I'm going to go through that much trouble just so I can give someone my money.

      Not.

I'll spend my money with people who don't force me to jump through hoops instead.

          What he said ^

It's a filtering process. If he can elicit a time/attention commitment/investment from you, he's more likely to be able to elicit other things. If so, Ryan loves you, not hates.

And the OP just gave him word of mouth brand exposure, a side benefit of controversial marketing strategies - 'daring to be different' at work.

He probably does it for 2 reasons:

            a) Conversion is higher
            b) Video hosting costs are lower if tyre kickers click away and only potential buyers stick around to burn up his bandwith

Personally, I hate the offers which have a video, at the end of which you will see the offer. The problem is - sometimes you cannot tell how long the video is.

    It is DAMN IRRITATING.

But, it converts better. If you actually watch the video till the end, its 80% (or more) likely that you will buy the damn thing. The 20% won't because of the price or something like that.

Yeah, Ryan is always testing new things, he's absolutely crazy about testing, and I sorta understand him.

Ryan has always put out great products, although recently the big "inner circle" like Ryan, Frank, Jeff x2, etc. focuses on stuff more suited and targeted to the big companies which can pay more money.

They don't teach as much stuff for newbies as they used.

LOL...funny stuff, Robert. You definitely got my attention.

Raydal's answer was 99% correct, but to give you guys a preview we're testing a version of the video that allows people to fast-forward/rewind when they return to the page.

Hopefully that will reduce obnoxiousness without destroying conversions.

But just to be clear, no, I don't hate you.

And there you have it, folks. Consider this the definitive answer because it came from Ryan himself. I think the biggest take-away from this is that you must test, test, test, and test some more. And if you can't test as much as you might want, follow the lead of super successful folks like Ryan and do what he does, at a somewhat reduced budget.

So I wanna thank him for being a good sport about my very tongue-in-cheek thread.
