Just finished editing my ebook....questions

I have just finished writing my ebook (yet another fat loss, beginner training guide) and am ready to make it available for download on my blog. I originally thought it would be good freebie give away to start building a list. After reading a recent thread on not giving away freebies and charging instead to build a list with proven buyers, I got thinking. I really don't know what to do with the list once I get people subscribed...I had a thought of using an upsell and promoting a nutrition guide from clickbank because my book is mainly on training principles. I figured that I could push other fitness products through the list as well but I am getting hung up on one thing. I spent a lot of my time working on this book, the clickbank product commission is 20 dollars, did I do way too much work to make 20 dollars on a clickbank product or am I on the right track? I have only been doing this for a month.

From the sound of it you do not feel like there is anything unique or special about your e-book. Why should anybody buy your e-book?

To properly sell your e-book you need to create a sales page with compelling copy. Once you have a good converting range 1% or higher you want to recruit affiliates.

You can offer a part of your book for free as a free incentive to build a list. As far as the $20 Clickbank product... 100 people buying is $2,000. Think bigger.

You have created your first low end product and you can create higher priced products as you get better at selling and increase knowledge in your niche.

Thanks james, I guess my tone came off wrong. I actually think my ebook is worth more than the 20 dollar click bank product. The idea for writing the ebook has come from my personal experience in training teenage athletes for the last 6 years....it's not just some belly fat BS that can be found anywhere. I appreciate your advice on making things bigger. I guess when I finished the book and showed it to a few people I wondered if I should be trying to make money off the actual book rather than get a list started to make money. Your idea makes sense....give away a section of the book to build a list and then sell the full version. Thanks!

So is your target audience teenager athletes? The belly fat BS sells because tons of people have issues with belly fat. I used to... Burpies are really effective. That target audience has money to pay for products. Teenage athletes may not have as much money as a more widespread audience.

The reason the $20 Clickbank products are priced at that point is they convert higher and they can sell mass copies. Do the math 1,000 x $20 = $20,000 That's not chump change anymore. If you have upsells, backend products and memberships than you can earn a lot more from each sale.

If you have an excellent product and have affiliates doing 80-95% of the work like "Truth About Abs" has in place then you can do those numbers.

The targeted audience is actually women but I see what you are saying. I am a full time teacher and coach (female athletes) and have streamlined some workout methods based on seeing what works. I guess it is scary to write something and take a chance that it could actually be successful.

If you believe for your book to be quality and worth that money then start selling it.

You can take an excerpt from your book and offer it for free on your squeeze page,
so that when people read it they will want more and will be compelled to buy your book.

Also, you can arrange a short report on a certain aspect of training or something,
that you can offer as a free gift.

Weight loss niche is on the biggest and most competitive so you won't have trouble
finding relevant products to send to your subscribers as an affiliate also.

As James said, you should continue creating higher end products, courses, maybe
    membership site, 1on1 training etc.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing, and also with your experience with athletes you have a very interesting angle.

I would suggest that you focus on creating the best possible offer for you book now that you are done. That would for instance include consultations with experts, cooking books, maybe even some self-help psychological bonuses. Think that you are building the perfect "magic wand" solution.

Are you writing the sales copy as well? Sounds like a very interesting case for my copywriter.

I was going to attempt to write the sales copy but would be open to someone that actually knows what they are doing. At this point I really believe I have a good product and think I should do this the right way.

If your ebook has unique information it will attract lots of buyers. So if you think your ebook has that, why not sell?

But going through your post, it seems that you have made this ebook entirely to build list.

It's funny, the book started out as just a way to build a list.....the OCD personality kicked in and wouldn't let me do a hack job with it and that's when I decided to ask for advice. The book kind of took on a whole new life when it was done. I know it is a pat on the back but I feel pretty good about it

I would give it away as a freebie, then promote a high commission affiliate product from Clickbank or even Paydotcom.
