Default Share Your Copy And Paste Secrets...I'm Serious

We take copy and paste for granted. We really do.

Here are just 3 things that I use copy and paste for.

1. For creating blog posts, I copy and paste the keywords I need for that
article from a list I keep in a text file. Each list is comma delimited. I just
pick the one I need for that article. Saves me at least 30 seconds for each
blog post.

2. Thank you emails. I write up a thank you for each product with whatever
info I feel is important that the customer knows for that product. I then
just copy and paste it into the email. Depending on how much info I have to
convey, this can take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes or longer. If you've
seen some of my emails, you'll know they can get quite wordy. If I'm telling
about a product you just bought, no point in repeating myself over and over
by typing it all out each time. Just type it once and you're done.

3. Customer questions. Sometimes I get the same questions. So what I
do is type up a stock answer for that question, like "Can you give me a
list of the top article directories" and just copy and paste it into the email.
I have quite a collection of these. The hard part is keeping track of them
all.

So what about you? What do you do, as far as copy and paste, to make
your job go faster? Maybe if you share your copy and paste secrets we
can save many of the people here a lot of time and give them more time
to spend on the things that actually make them money with their business.

Hi Steve

Cool thread!

I simply could not live without ShortKeys...

ShortKeys Home Page

..which pastes in any amount of text at the press of a couple of buttons.

For example, to insert my email signature, I press #sig and, hey presto, it appears!

I use it for everything from signatures to support responses, license information, order confirmations.

The time it saves is phenomenal!

Cheers,

Neil

Neil, I didn't even know that this thing existed.

Thanks, I'm going to look into it and may add it to my arsenal.

You would need a chisel and a stone slab!

Neat thread. I am going to try an think of some of my most intimate copy and paste secrets and post them here in a moment.

OK, here's one I find myself doing once a week.

404 Secrets is a butterfly site. The OTO is processed with
Clickbank.

If the new member waits until after their session expires before they buy
the OTO, they won't be upgraded by the script.

So, I double check all sales every 3 or 4 days to make sure the customer
was indeed upgraded.

If they weren't, I upgrade them, then send them a copy paste email
to tell them how to access their purchase.

I always just do a search in my gmail for certain keywords I know are
in the message, then when I find the message, I just forward it and
make sure I take the previous customers' details out of it and replace
them with the new customers' info.

Hope this is a good example

Stop the thread. STOP the thread! You all are ruining my "Copy and Paste Secrets" WSO!

Seriously though... I use it in the same ways mentioned here (such as for thank you emails, refund request emails, and other common requests -- just copy and paste the reply).

Funny - I always took copy and paste for granted too, until I got an iphone... man! it AMAZES me there is no C&P on an iphone... - its a MAJOR weakness.

Its especially hopeless when you're sitting on a train and you have to write down a 50 character affiliate URL and then retype it again just to paste it into a link cloaker for emailing your list...! (yep - done that!)

I like to plan my daily tasks. I use Excel which allow me to lay out important info and I produced a form which gives description of tasks I plan to do for that day.
For example, I plan to spend an hour in this Forum, my form will have description as Warrior, Alloted Time, Start Time, End Time, and a column with a formula to calculate the actual time spent automatically from the Difference
between End Time and Start Time.
I use cut and paste to produce a new table from the template every day, so that I have a continuos record of my daily tasks saved permanently.
The only problem with this table is the time format Hours:Minutes and a 24 hour Clock makes the calculation formula and the table itself quite complicated.

Now THIS is a cool thread idea!

Here's one that I use. A LOT.

Get a copy of Super NoteTab, or NoteTab Pro. Award-Winning NoteTab Text Editors and HTML Editors - There is a free version available.

Install it and start it up. Go to the View menu, and select Options. In the screen that comes up, click on the Files tab, and check the box next to "Automatic save every," and set it to 3 minutes. (That will remain as the default, so you only have to do that part once.)

Open a new file, hit enter once to create a blank line, and save the file with a useful name, like Research.txt

Now, go to the Document menu and select "Use as pasteboard." The tab for that document will turn green when it's activated.

At this point, any text that you copy, using a menu option or CTRL-C, will be automatically pasted into that document.

(This works in NoteTab Pro, but there was one version a while back where it didn't, so test it before you go off on a long research process.)

Doing research on the web, and find something you'd like to save? Copy the title, then the URL, then the info you want to save. It's pasted for you automatically. No need to switch back and forth to do it.

Just keep surfing and copying the parts you want to save. It will automatically save the file (as long as you saved it with a name before starting) however often you told it to.

This is a very handy feature. Once you set the program up, the process is simpler. Create a file, save it with a name, and turn on "Use as Pasteboard."

One thing I do with ShortKeys is use different email signatures for different people.

When I'm emailing new prospects, I include a "get started" signature.

When I'm emailing customers, I include a "join our affiliate program" signature.

You get the idea.

By pressing a few buttons, the content I'm sending becomes relevant to the recipient's situation, and it's so easy, I can do this on a contact by contact basis.

Cheers,

Neil

Just thought of an example of how I use this...

I asked folks for questions about a topic in a recent newsletter. I used this process to quickly copy all of those questions into one document. Much neater than a huge pile of emails.

The next step is to turn off the pasteboard function in that file, and create a new one called Outline.txt. Turn the pasteboard ON for that file, and start selecting the questions in a sensible order for answering.

A quick, systematic method for turning a random batch of emails into a logical outline for an article or product.

LOL - I can't believe how much I'm getting out of this thread! I clicked on it as a lark and now I'm knee-deep in it!

Neil - thanks for the suggestion of Short Keys - looks awesome!

As for me, I LOVE making use of pre-formated templated emails. Generally I put them in a text file with some keywords "highlighted" in caps (so I remember to change them in the actual email... talking about name, topic, etc here...). I find if I have them in a text file, it saves me having to search through multiple Gmail messages (also a great idea), and I can generally find them faster.

Awesome thread!

- Mark.

ps - Tim, I'm SHOCKED that the iPhone doesn't have C&P.... CRAZY!

I run late and don't have time to check some of the latest threads on the WF.

I open the threads I am interested in and then copy and paste them into a Word doc. OR at least that's how I used to do it.

I found a neat clipboard program that I can turn on and off easily. I turn it on. Go to each open WF url and copy it. The URL automatically goes to the program. I copy all the open URLs and then turn off the clipboard program.

Next I copy the clipboard window to my Word doc. FAST and EASY. I can read missed threads of interest at my leisure (or sometimes never).

The program is Clipboard Helper from Cubic Design - Free software download. Easy to use and affordabale software for Windows. Free tools for hacking, 3D graphics, games, small utilities, help and hints. however, I got my copy from Freeware Nonags - Free Software Downloads which is a freeware site.

Steve,
If you are having to copy and paste replies into email, maybe you should try the email program, "Eudora". All of my stock replies are in the Eudora Stationary and I click REPLY WITH and select the stock message to use. It is automatically inserted in the email -- no copy and paste.

I can highlight a section of the email and only the highlighted section of the original email will go in with my stock reply. If I don't highlight any text in the original email. the reply includes everything like a normal reply.

There is no copy and paste in Eudora. Select the correct reply and it is automatically inserted into the email.

Wow...now THAT is really cool.

Will it work with AOL email?

And yes, don't laugh at me, I do use AOL because I find it is the best
all around universal translator of email formats. Some emails, especially
HTML don't read well in things like Squirrel Mail or even Outlook, which I
refuse to use anyway because of all the problems with viruses. With AOL,
you never have to worry about a virus unless you're dumb enough to
download an attachment.

Anyway, back to my question. Does it work with AOL email or only with
things like Outlook?

I use ClipMate from Thornsosoft. It's an
advanced clipboad programme that creates
an archive of everything you copy to the
clipboard.

I use it for research, article writing, blogging,
product creation and many other tasks.

It's an excellent productivity booster.

Wow! I didn't even know that site about short-cut keys was out there...great resource...!

As for me, I just picked up an add-on for FF called "auto-copy"...just high-light any text and it's automatically copied to your 'clipboard'...saves the hassle of always using CTRL + C if you ask me. :-)

Well, that's about it..Now I'm off to check out that URL for shortcut keys...and...the one for ClipMate...and the one for clipboard helper...

Thanks for the suggestions folks!

Coolest Cut / Copy / Paste tip / tool or whatever Ive seen so far [for me] ... is ... Anagram! Im an affiliate but this is not an Aff Link.

Capture Critical Information ANAGRAM

Here's how I use it - and its the BOMB!!!

It essentially will work with outlook or gmail. There's a freebie web version I have as a widget on my iGoogle dashboard. Ok sorry to ramble...

It allows you to select text - on a web page, in an email signature, on a contact Us Page, Google Maps address search page - whatever ... and automagically create a email client contact - saves me gabooooodles of time for making Outlook Contact entries- probably use 10x a day at work.

An example:

Steve Aylor
Insurance Referral Solutions
steveo@gmail.com
12345 West First St
Los Angeles, CA, 90210
909-123-0987 Direct
909-321-0971 Fax
909-555-1212 Cell
The Insurance Referral System Movie - Unique Autopilot System

All I do is select that block of text and hit the Hot Key [ F1 or F12 ]. Anagram intelligently reads that block and assigns the text to the proper fields in the contact database.

I use it for grabbing 10-20 names and addies off websites, and into Outlook Contacts. I then export them up into my CRM apps and go to work on warming them up and then call for my appointments. [whole nuther story]

This is a good idea. Seriously. Every email I add to my autoresponder, every article I post to my blog, every sales letter I write... I save in a notepad document first. As a swipe file. To use over and over as needed and as fit. Great thread. I'm subscribing.

Been using Shortkeys as long as I remember... Well over 5 years, great tool!

All my usual Email responses are in there, and a few keystrokes later, it's pasted into my email and off it goes.
