microsoft word 2007 footer link question

so...

First off, I know this is may sound really stupid to some, but this is driving me absolutely mad and it's beyond me.

I'm about to release version 2 of a book I have. In it a friend gave me a template to use which looks much more professional. I have word 2007 along with the PDF converting "plugin" or whatever you want to call it, from microsoft. That means when I go to "save as" , then pdf is one of the options.

My book has a footer with a link to something else I sell. however, when i save to pdf, both within word AND when i used an online converter, the link is not clickable. I have no idea why this is. In word, in the footer section, i go in and make a link out of "here" and it all looks good in the editor.

Does anyone have any idea how I can go about making the link in the footer clickable once i save as a PDF?

any help is appreciated

Matt

    Are you going to "insert" and then clicking hyperlink option. Sometimes it won't be automatically clickable in the footer. Like when you type Google in the body it instantly turns to a link. Sometimes the footer won't do that. links behave differently using different converters though.

    it may be a function of your converter then. Most pdf converters have some limitations. Some of those can be quite quirky. (2 words starting with "Q" back to back...you won't see that often) Sorry I can't help with that. I use the actual adobe software to convert pdf files.

      It is possible by following the steps below:

      1. First you must have an image (of any format and size);
      2. Insert the image somewhere in the document, but NOT in the header or footer;
      3. Right-click on the image and select ‘Hyperlink…’;
      4. Make the hyperlink;
      5. Now you can copy-paste the image to the header or footer;
      6. Now right click on your image and select ‘Text Wrapping -> Behind Text’ and place the image where you want.

      If you do not make your image to be behind the text, the link will not work in the PDF document.

    Hi ...

    I've also been looking around this problem. I tested it ... and it works!

    Thank you willem89.

    Here's my workaround (following Willem89's idea):

    1- make the text an image (I use Snag)... screen-capture the text, save in clipboard, edit/crop in your image editor
    2- Create a hyperlink from within the Word doc body.
    3- cut and paste onto your footer.

    (the additional step ... )
    4- go file >> options >> proofing >> click "autocorrect options" >> (under "Replace") UNTICK 'Internet and Network paths with hyperlinks" (if you don't, the source path of your image will be displayed when you mouse over the image).
