Ok i am new to this internet marketing malarky so go easy on me.

I have recently been made redundant and have a little bit of money saved up which will support me for up to a year if i dont find another job.

Im thinking of having some time off job hunting to maybe spend some time building up a new online business.

Now my question to you is where do you think i should start.

Ive spent the last few weeks looking at all sorts of im ideas and to be honest my heads ready to explode with information overload.

Has anybody had any success buying an allready created website from flippa and earning a long time income from it after giving it some TLC.?

Te early days of IM are the ones you will make the most mistakes and possibly lose the most amount of money.

Reason 1. You are very new and still learning and will fall for all the hype and nonsense we all did when we started.
Reason 2. You will expect quick results, they won't happen and you will try something else (for quick results).
Reason 3. The huge amount of information will swamp you and you can find 6 months disappear just reading the forum posts.
Reason 4. You will take advice from others because they seem to know what they are talking about, when in fact they are are new as you are. (or worse have been around a while and still made no success).

    To answer you question specifically

Yes you can buy sites from flippa and earn from them but don't fall for the $40 sites that will make you rich. As you are brand new to this it is unlikely that you will be able to give a site the TLC to make it a decent income.

You will still need to learn SEO/Traffic Generation etc

I would suggest buying a site that already has a PROVEN income. It is likely you will pay 10 X monthly income for such a site. At least you will something to build on.

Any site with no proven income is worthless as you cannot know if it will ever make money.

It is rare to find one site that will give you a full time income but if you can do well with one then it's just a matter of repetition to create more income.

I've only scratched the surface with this advice but always do your due diligence. If it seems to good to be true - IT IS!

Try to make a decision on what you want to do and STICK TO IT.
Learn and become an expert in that field.

Changing track every couple of months will find your 1 year buffer gone in a flash.

    The very best of luck

I think you should start by getting another job. Then, you can invest in your future and have your job pay for your present. Take time to look around. There are many millionaires in this forum, but they are not always easy to spot. They usually are the ones who say little, but when they do speak up, it's always worth listening. Take a deep breath and look around. There are many ways of making money online. You should take out a piece of paper (yes paper, not the computer) and write down what your strengths and weaknesses are. Then, you should write down your likes and dislikes. Last, but certainly not least, you should write down your income goals. Once you look at all of that together, your path should be much clearer. IM success is very much about motivation as it is skill. Good luck to you.

I am with Tony, one site is probably not going to make big income. With one site, you also fall into the trap of having all your eggs in one basket. Something happens to the one site, such as losing your traffic, like with a SE update, all your income is gone.

    Hi Pokerpie,

Honestly I would recommend you find a complete business course that offers everything in one without having to buy this and that.

Pick one method and stick with that until you are successful, the problem with the WF is that everyone is trying to promote some push button product.

Content is king as you know and you need to follow a provide formula such as

    Content - Traffic - Preselling - Monetization

I can recommend a only one course at the moment which teaches you everything as well as you wont need to pay for hosting, any keyword software or plugins to distract you from your main goal which is to build an asset.

Its a step by step business building which include search it, wordtracker, niche research, video tutorials and much more. This course has help thousands and I only wish I learn about it when I started a while back it would have saved me money and time online.

Here is the link and seriously this is the best all in one course I have found. I am a member and believe me I have tried blog mastermind, blog blueprint, autoblog blueprint which are all good and not longer accepting new membership which goes to show I kind of pick good people to learn from.

At a price of $29 a month or $299 a year you will save money and time learning from a proven business model and system. I don't recommend garbage just to get a commission some of these people here this is a great course worth anyone time.

My advice to you find a proven business model, learn to make it work and rinse and repeat. Don't get trap by all these wso and focus on your content and helping others solve a problem.

Check out the link and let me know what you think

All great advice for you in this thread and I would agree with them all.

The only thing I would add is once you have decided on how you are going to go forward - be consistent and stick with it until it works, only then add something else into the mix.

I'm not saying just blindly keep doing the same thing forever in the hope that it will pay off, what I mean is once you have properly researched some methods and found something which you feel comfortable with and which you have found proof that it really does work and you think you could emulate. Do it and keep doing it until you see the rewards. Too many people try something for a few weeks, then try something else, the try something else....etc and then give up because 'nothing works'. They've never given it the time it needs. We've probably all been guilty of this too, but learn from our mistakes and stick with a proven strategy UNTIL you get the results.

I'm also using Flippa lately and doing some searching so any replys that you receive, I will also read.

If I was to start over again, I'd become an expert on Photoshop or Excel. And then look for work in that field. Especially, since I love tweaking pictures, I would have enjoyed a Photoshop job.

Good luck with Flippa and hopefully, we don't compete against one another.
I have a little experiance with photoshop and dreamweaver so that should help allthough its only a little experiance.

Has for flippa im not expecting to go that route at the min but just wondered if it was worth a look.

Hey, experience is experience. I think the Dreamweaver experience would be especially valuable.

I think it's not the best idea to put yourself in a position where you're depending on IM when you aren't yet knowledgeable about it. Would you let a first year medical student take out your appendix? lol

    Hey Pokerpie,
Sorry to hear about your redundancy... hopefully in a year or so you look back at it as a blessing in disguise.

I was there about 18 months ago myself.

I've also fallen into the same traps many here do, by latching on to the latest WSO that promised the world.

What I now know is that you can't buy your way to success, but rather you have to invest wisely.. a good mentor is a start, you'll find a number here, some better than others. Some guys I highly respect are Brian G. Johnson, Sean Donahoe, Shane Melaugh, just as a few examples.

Also, focus, planning and then taking real action is key. I wrote about it the other day on my own blog, The Biggest Internet Marketing Secret

Figure out what you want to do, be it niche marketing, affiliate marketing, seo, offline marketing, product creation etc. find a mentor, follow their program... and stay away from all the distractions that come your way.. there will be thousands, so be careful.

    Anyway, there's 2 cents worth.

All the best and good luck. Feel free to PM if you have any questions.

It might appear that buying a site and earning out of it is a smart move, but more so, you will start regretting later. There is nothing like building your own site, driving traffic and putting all your sweat over to develop this site and then maintain it for long long time.

I would advise you not to buy a site from flippa instead, spend little more time learning from this forum and come out with your own product.

I do not think they sell profitable sites for cheap prices on flippa. They usually get rid of what is not generate enought income. Sites with descent income cost a bulk of money. You can try, at least you'll get some experience.

Start by finding a part time job that will cover your daily living expenses.

Then focus on learning by reading. For skills development (basic web design, SEO, whatever those basic skills are that you need to learn) start at the public library.

When you're ready, start by buying a domain and building a simple website to develop and implement those basic skills that you learned by reading.

Do not spend money on 'courses'.

To buy a site with significant income on Flippa that is legit and not a scam will cost a considerable amount of money.

My advice is to get back to job hunting immediately before you start running low on money and do this in your spare time.

You're new, don't have a clue as to what you want to do, may or may not have the skills to do it. There's a learning curve and you're in the learning stage and learning will not support you financially.

Earn while you learn. Im is not a get rich quick system. My advice would be to get a job that allows you time to learn more. Echo previous poster mention of the Challenge
It's how I got started when it was the thirty day challenge. 30 days to make a dollar online. The skills you learn are a great building block. Don't get sucked into big ticket purchases just because you have a redundancy payout to rely on. Best of luck.
