Warrior for Hire: worth it for writers?

Hi everyone,
This is my first post, but I've been reading all your excellent advice in the forums for some time now.

I'm a freelance writer, and I handle everything from articles to ad copy. I've been looking for some new clients, and read here that placing a Warrior for Hire ad is a good way to do that.

However, when I checked out some of the ads placed by writers, I saw that they were charging very low rates...somewhere between $5 and $15. I have a few clients now that pay quite a bit more than that, and I'm amazed that anyone will write 500 words for as little as $5.

My question is this: If I place a Warrior for Hire ad, would it be worth my time, given my higher rates? Or would I be passed over in favor of the cheaper writers (who already have very extensive and positive feedback). I'm not sure how I can possibly compete. Have any writers here had success by selling their services for higher-than-average prices?

Definitely, there are markets for all sorts of rates, if you browse through them, you will find higher rate writers.

I'm assuming the writing you are doing is extremely targeted, high quality writing.

The $5 for 500 word article writers TEND TO BE for bulk articles and are lots of articles ordered for article marketing purposes to get related backlinks (sorry if you offer $5 for 500 word word articles that are not for this purpose).

But that's how I see it!

The sales letter writers mostly charge $200+ and seem to be getting a lot of responses/inquiries. I got $200 from a client here a while back for a sales letter myself. You can't let the optics daunt you. You have to do your own thing. Remember: internet marketers are generally not the best market for articles. A lot of them (wisely or unwisely, I will not say) are just looking for keyword stuffing SEO sausage. If it's really *articles* that you want to write, you should be looking for editors of publications, not IMers, as clients.

    Hi Melissa

You certainly CAN sell at a higher price than what you might regularly see here.

However, a couple of things to keep in mind.

First of all, many Warriors are used to seeing $5 to $15 article writing services, so $30 or $50 would probably be considered "high" here.

However, that... in itself... isn't the problem.

The problem is in conveying the VALUE.

For example, these $5 - $15 outfits also promise "high quality" writing, and "superior" service, as your sig line claims.

Now, whether they really deliver on that is another discussion ... but the point is...

You need to figure out how to DEMONSTRATE that value to your potential customers.

What will they get from you, that they won't get from a $5 or even a $15 article writer.

For example, think about what YOU might do to prepare your "high quality" writing.

You might spend some serious quality time researching your client's subject, aiming to gain a real deep understanding of the topic, and getting to the heart of any problems a reader might have.

A $5 article writer might hit up Wikipedia and EzineArticles, and spin and regurgitate somebody else's material.

    HUGE DIFFERENCE!

    And that's just the start.

In my book "Write To More Money" I call it SELLING THE DIFFERENCE.

You must really convey to your prospects the difference they will get, with $50 compared to $5.

Help them to really understand and appreciate the difference, and what it will do to their bottom line.

Do they want to build their business on the back of re-spun Wikipedia articles, or on articles and writing that really builds them as an AUTHORITY and EXPERT in their niche?

    Things like that

Avoid phrases like "high quality" and "superior service". Every writer says that. What writer is going to say, "I offer really crappy quality". Think about it

Instead, think of all the ways you can SHOW your prospect how your service is superior.

I hope this helps a bit!

      This man speaks the truth.

I would say something along the lines of "HIGH CONVERTING CONTENT - PROOF INSIDE!!" or "Increased my last client's conversions by 50 percent with better content! Learn how!".

Those are more surrounded with raw facts and numbers. They paint an image in your mind, as opposed to saying something is high quality. What image does that paint?

      None.

Thanks for the advice. I've removed that line from my sig and will come up with something better.

I'll also be sure to make an ad that conveys value to potential buyers...tell them what to expect from a $5 article versus, say, a $30-50 one. I'm not sure it will appeal to IM'rs looking for a bargain, but hopefully I'll get a bite or two from it.

It's a good idea, because most writers are always taken advantage of nowadays. They are so happy to be working from home that they are glad with a $5-$10 hour rate, if not less. It's just so hard to find someone who is willing to pay more that you definitely have to do everything to keep these clients.

          All the best,
          Edward

        Hi Melissa,

I am a freelance writer as well, and I am sure you know that it's not worth it to write anything for $5 bucks.

As a matter of fact whoever is doing that is really shooting themselves in the foot and bringing the whole business of freelance writing down. Frankly, I tend not to advertise where people sell themselves so low.

Good that you removed it, but still! Your sig is pretty generic and the text is quite small. Make the entire text a link and make it bold. Make it something like this:

[Let a full time writer fill your site with content that pulls in customers and drives your conversions through the roof!]

    Now that's an image!

You back your price with quality work. If you value your work highly then put that price
on it. If people consider your work to worth it, they will pay gladly.

There is a place on the market for both low priced and high priced products. Also,
besides WF offer your services on freelance sites and build your reputation there as well.
