Are there different types of Wordpress?

Are there different levels of Wordpress blogs? I know that if you go through 30DC, you get 3 free ones, and after that, it's like $47 a month, or more, but, you can have unlimited.

Is there another type of Wordpress that you can have unlimited blogs, but, not as much functionality? Or, do you normally pay for Wordpress?

    Wordpress is 100% free.

The hosting company you're looking at doesn't sound very good!

Try Dreamhost. They give you a TON of space for super cheap and you can install as many instances of Wordpress as you want.

Not to mention you can find a lot of great coupons for it online.

PM me if you'd like a little more information on Wordpress.

    Hmmm...

    Wordpress is always free.
I'm not sure what exactly you're looking at.
    Unless it's a hosting program.

    Can you elaborate?

Yeah, it must be a hosting program, I suppose.

I need to go back and re-watch those videos. So, with Wordpress Direct, I can create as many unique different pages as I want?

      You've got it.

If you have a good host, you'll have something called 'Fantastico' or some one-click installer that they may have created. This will allow you to install wordpress in just a few minutes.

After that, what you do with it is up to you!

Your host SHOULD allow as many different installations of it as your mySQL space will allow though.

WP has 3 platforms WP Direct which you are using. WP.com which does not allow monetizing as far as I know both of these are free platforms.

Then there's WP.org which is not free you need to purchase a domain and hosting which is under $20 so it's not much and worth it. Then you can monetize to your heart's content and have much more freedom.

If you get more than 3 WP Direct blogs I believe you have to upgrade and pay upwards to $100 plus. Not sure on that one it's been a while since I checked into it.

Yes, wordpress is always free. You have the option of creating wordpress blogs that are hosted by wordpress and there's not as many features or by creating wordpress blogs on your own domain which is highly recommended.

So, how much do domains cost? Dumb question, I know, but, is a domain the same as hosting?

Or, do I have to have 2 different things, a domain and a hosting site?

Domains typically run about $10 per year. Some may be less and some may be more. Depends on the TLD and the registrar.

Hosting is separate, and it's generally recommended you get your domain name and hosting through two different companies.

You will need both a domain name and hosting. Think of hosting as renting a place to live and as a domain name as a sign telling people where to find your house.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

domains average about $9.00 per year more or less depending on the domain you choose. Some can get very expensive.

Domains and hosting are not the same, a domain is like a phone number for your site. Hosting is where your site resides.

You purchase your domain then secure your hosting.

They can be purchased together from the same company or from different companies. Many people by domains from one source like GoDaddy and hosting from elsewhere.

As someone mentioned earlier look for hosting that uses cPanel and Fantastico and installing wordpress on your domain will be easy as 1 2 3.

Hosting averages about $7.00 per month hostgator, & blue host, are good for wordpress.

wordpress is cms Content Management System which means it works well as a blog and a website

It's also best to have them in separate places for example, I have hosting at hostgator but my domains are at 1 and 1. This is so that if you have a dispute with your host they cannot put a freeze on your domains, at least that's why I do it.

Some popular domain registrars are name cheap, dynadot, 1 and 1. A lot of people use godaddy because they have good deals, but I don't trust them due to reading quite a few unfavorable reports on them.

The two favorite hosts seem to be hostgator and bluehost.

I need to go back and find what all the WPD that 30DC was talking about, becuase, it's a $1 trial, but, in their sign up, it can get easily up to $69 monthly. does anyone have a clue what that could be?

I'm not familiar with 30DC, is that a host?

I would suggest you try google for "Wordpress Hosting" and begin your research there. It doesn't sound too good what you are saying.

Wordpress is free and hosting is cheap

It's an upgrade you can get, WP Direct has upgrades. This is what I have understood the money to be for I could be wrong. The first 3 sites are supposed to be free unless they changed that.

Check into it to make sure. I never did go the WP Direct route due to many newbies having tech issues. I am completely techie dumb so I didn't want problems in that area.

I use WP.org installed with Fantastico and it was the best decision as far I'm concerned. I also didn't like the idea of auto content I want original posts.

Were you still able to monetize your wordpress free with Fantastico?

        Thanks.

      There are only 2 differences

      wordpress.org the mother ship
wordpress.com - a free blogging community so to speak, set up by wordpress.org

I took a look at WP direct and it appears to me to be a membership site of some type. I didn't look too far cause that was all I needed to see. It may very well be a great place... but not for me.

In order to take complete and full advantage of everything that wordpress has to offer there is only one way... on your own domain with a quality reliable host.

You can be up and blogging in less than 24 hrs and less than $20.00

Depends upon which one you use.. Many are forgetting that another version exist which many many use.. WordPress Secured which is a full wordpress install but the coding has been changed and edited to secure the wordpress. There is also a video which shows the installation in less than 10 minutes.

Once you have it set up there are a lot of cool skins you can put on it to make it look really professional. Just do a Google search.

I totally agree that BlueHost is one of the best. You can have up to 50 free Wordpress sites on BlueHost and you get unlimited space. I would switch hosting companies because Wordpress is usually free.

Wordpress is content management system you download free from Wordpress.org.

You need hosting and a domain name to run it.

Fantastico is a program that installs Wordpress for you.

The only limits you would have would be space and mysql limits at your hosting account.

What do you want to do?

Okay okay... here's what you do.

    1) Go to GoDaddy.com and register your domain name (hint: search google for Godaddy coupon codes, Fatwallet.com has a bunch of codes. You should be able to get a domain for less than $8 with a code)
    2) Get a hosting account, preferably one with unlimited domain add-ons and Fantastico. (I use Hostgator)
    3) Find out what your DNS servers are @ your hosting company. (should have at least 2; ns###.hostingprovider.com, ns###.hostingprovider.com)
    4) Go back to Godaddy and set the DNS for your new domain to "point at" the DNS for your hosting account.
    5) Log into your hosting account and use Fantastico to set up your Wordpress blog.

    Done.

You'll spend next to nothing, besides the monthly hosting fee, which is negligable.

If you need Wordpress themes, search Google for "Free Wordpress Themes"

There are different theme formats as well. You've got your magazine format and your personal blogging format. My recent google search was "Free Minimalist Wordpress Themes"

Go see what that brings up.

By the way, the WP Theme I use on my personal blog (in my signature) was free. Its called Arthemia. I love it.
