Let's say you have a high traffic site about a particular niche or subject, if you slap relevant banners on your site can you expect to make any money?

Let's say I signup for ClickBank and put some banners up that are relevant to my site can I expect buyers? Is it that easy?

Yes it ever well can be. You can earn various of ways from one single site with high traffic.
    - List building
    - Banners
    - Text ads in the posts
    - adsense
    - CPA offers

Placing relevant banners on your site for
affiliate sales is definitely a way to monetize
the site - getting buyers or not isn't something
    that's in your favor.

What's always recommended is to build a list
as you are verifying that they have an interest
    in the first place.

So it would be better to re-route them to a
squeeze page of sorts before redirecting them
    to the sales page.

Most people don't buy on the 1st exposure, so
even if you've got lots of traffic to your site,
you have no way to get them to click on the
banner so they get exposed multiple times to
    the same offer.

Better to control that by capturing them in an
    autoresponder.

My sites tend to have the same banners so they will be exposed everytime they go to the site to the same banners.

From my experience, it works best in desperate niches and if the banner offers the viewer a solution right now.

For example: Let's take the niche - How to litter train your cat.
A banner for a clickbank product about litter box training probably won't convert as well as a banner offering a low cost trial of Cat-Pee Smell Eliminator.

The banners don't even have to be relevant to the site.

Banners converts are as good as any other method.

The relevant stuff that influences banner conversion is the banner image, copy, position etc.

      Hi,

Many complained about visitors' ADVERTISING BANNER BLINDNESS. Somehow visitors have trained themselves over the years to ignore banners, even the animated ones.

There are 2 strategies considered as effective to catch the eyes of visitors though:
      1. VERY UGLY BANNERS OR STRANGELY SHAPED BANNERS
      2. TEXT-BASED BANNERS WITH COMPELLING COPIES ( HEADLINES ).

      Google for details.
