have you got your own name domain yet?

Last week my friend had a MAJOR drama with her email account - it's the one she got with her hosting a gazzillion years ago.

She's a mortgage broker and still uses this crap email - which by the way has served her well for 10 years'ish - but they had a big crash and she didn't get any emails for nearly 2 weeks - so you can imagine the dissaster that caused.

Aaaanywaaay... I told her I'd grab her domain for her & set up an email for her to gradually change over to.

So I bought the domain, set it as an addon to my hosting a/c and setup her email addy.

I didn't put anything on her site - its just got that cgi/bin thingo.

I was a bit stunned to notice today that she's got position 5 on page one of google (yes i know it will prob dissappear again soon) but still! Thats a search without quotes out of 17,200,000 - I'm impressed!

Her name is actually searched over 5000 times a month - so needless to say I'm throwing something on there for the moment that'll help her.

I also rang to tell her the exciting bit of trivia - but she is soooooo NOT IM I could have been talking about rocket science for all it made sense to her - so I thought I'd come here and share LOL!

haha - it's a pity this is a great friend of mine, otherwise I may have been tempted to charge her - and it wouldn't have been cheap either LOL. Estibot estimates the domain to be worth $1700 (yes I know about automated site estimations hehe).

I found a .com.au domain that is HEAVILY searched for and recommended it to a shop who would have been able to create an amazing site with that domain - I waited a month after telling him and it still wasn't registered -I've got it now and it's on my to-do list.

Oscar, I'm in the same boat. Mine are take also.

What you might do is try using last name, first initial. Something like OscarD.com or that kind of variant.

I've had the hyphenated version of my domain for five or six months and done nothing with it. The other day when I was buying yet another domain and had just finished wearily completing The GoDaddy Upsell Hurdles Challenge, a message appeared at the top of the page informing me that the un-hyphenated version was available. Summoning my reserves of stamina, I went through the process and bought it. Now I've got both versions doing nothing. *Sigh...

if your name is taken, have you tried adding your middle name initial, or adding something to the end - I also have stef-recommends - for use with affiliate marketing (I got it when I didnt really know what I was doing lol)

I was lucky enough to get my real name. I wanted my pen name but it's taken. I hadn't thought about hyphenating it. Great idea. I will purchase it tomorrow.

I don't think I'd want a domain with my name. I'd be scared of anyone who wanted to google me lol.

I did, at one point, have a domain with my name. But I gave it up when some online stalkers used Whois to find out where I was. (I was pretty naive back then and knew nothing about private registration.)

Now the domain belongs to another, more famous, Angela Edwards.
