help with website promotion

Hi Warriors! I have been doing IM for about a month now and I have been working on a new site for the last couple of weeks. Am going to monetize the site through Amazon affiliate and sky digital, lovefilm and netflix banners. The website link is below;

Best films ever

The search term I am aiming towards is best films ever. this gets 4400 exact local searches. Also I am going to be aiming for best comedy film, best horror film etc which between all of the film genres have a lot of searches. However my problem is that when I had the idea I didn't look at the competition. I submitted the site to Google although it isn't finished and to my shock it has come in 7th on the 1st page. However above me is every single big player in the film industry. IMDB at the top followed by rotten tomatoes etc.

Right so I have a few questions.

Firstly the top placers have Google page ranks of between 7-8 and thousands of good backlinks. Will I ever get above these even for the best films ever search?
Secondly, is it worth paying for ppc? When you make the searches there are absolutely no results in the paid section, does this mean I would be able to bid 1p to get to the top spot?
Thirdly, should I manually vote up the most popular films so they are at the top to try and make the site look more popular? Or should I start off with everything at 0 and let the users do the voting? I think if I do that then people will feel that they are making a difference by voting however it might turn people off the idea because the site is not popular?

I had an idea to get some youtube videos going with my url somewhere in it but this will be quite time consuming so haven't got round to this yet. All of the content is a direct copy of wikipedia text. I plan to edit each one but again this is going to be time consuming.

Are there any other methods of promotion which anyone would recomend for this sort of site ie. facebook, squidoo?

At the moment the only things I really plan to do to the site is to add more content. If the site becomes more popular I will spend the time to create more of a community feel to it with maybe a forum or some interaction between users.

I know this is a long winded question but any help or pointers would be massively appreciated.

    SEO (I don't reccomend this unless you can rank a site hundreds of times. Google changes it algorithims often and you could have all your traffic turned off like a tap!)

    Don't ever rely on one, do at least two. This way if one fails you still have some traffic coming in while you devise a new plot.
