We're going to start off with one page on our sites, and then after we gauge the keyword and competition we're going to decide whether to build more content or to let the site die.

Do you really think Google will keep your site if it has 1 page? logically..it might work..but Google is preparing a huge change soon as they mentioned so why waste the time on 1 page sites? even if you have 10 pages.. that's nothing.. create one site and work on it.. trust me u don't want to waste your time..

I really doubt your page will rank anywhere high enough to get traffic, unless you are going after keywords with absolutely non-existent competition.

Either that, or build a crapload of links to your 1-page site.

I have one page sites that are on the first page of Google for my keyword. As long as you have good content that people find useful it can have staying power.

My one page site has survived panda, maybe it will be wiped with new algorithms changes but so far it's been strong for over 2 years.

Tip: video. I have a few videos on YouTube embedded on my one page site showing people exactly how to use the product I'm promoting.

One of my popular one page site, my videos have over 3,000 views on YouTube, one has close to 4,000 views. They have more thumbs ups then thumbs downs, and a lot of comments and questions which I respond to right on YouTube.

Google doesn't care if your site is small, ugly, etc. as long as the end user get something out of it.

The problem with mini sites is that it's harder to promote 50 mini sites than 1 big sites.

The future of SEO will be social signals, and, still, backlinks.

Creating consistent social signals for mini sites is hard to do. It's more future proof to build bigger sites and to put all promotional efforts into those.

I think it really depends on the competition for that keyword. If none of the other pages for it are "better" than your 1 page, then you will rank.

This seems to be the way things are going. I've actually never been a big fan of putting all my "eggs" in just a few sites since I've seen firsthand how even sites that play by the rules can be affected by search engine updates but it seems like the best way to survive is to only have a few key site that you can build up and leverage your social and SEO efforts on.

I think one page websites can and do work! I agree content is king but surely there are times when a single page is all that's needed.

Take this simple website www.themonocleshop.com, this is a site I put together for my father. Now its impossible to write a lot of content about a Monocle however I have manged to get this site ranking well and he earns around £700 per month for this one off niche product. In this instance I believe it works because people are already in a buying mood when they are looking for the product.

If you have a domain that's just parked, you might as well put a one page site there. I think they're a good idea.

One page site won't make Google happy, Google wants lots of interactive information, fresh content, they want to see visitors to your sites because you are providing them great information.

Instead of speculation, Id like to hear from those who have experience in this area and can provide some solid data regarding the OP's question.

Ive often wondered how on earth professional internet marketers are able to rank thin sites (or single page sites for that matter) successfully in Google.

    Is it really doable??????

PS. Thanks Alan for sharing your experiences.

I don't know exactly what data you would like to see, but in regards to the OP question... my one page site ranks on page 1 of Google for "product name review" without the quotes.

Only Amazon.com out ranks my video and 1 page site.

On "product name" there is more competition but I still fluctuate between page 1 and 2. Right now, I'm #2 for the video and #4 for my 1 page site for that term.

My target was "product name review".

That sites doesn't make me millions but it does make me money every month and it's just a one page site. I haven't touched it since 2009 (been up since 2008).

I'm not saying that's the best route to go. In my example, I'm just reviewing one specific product. But the fact it's just one product it makes sense it's a thin site.

Like I already posted, it's just one page but the end user likes it because I'm showing them the product in action and how they can use it. People love that.

I don't have any ad banners or AdSense on the site. The only monetization is via Amazon.

In that scenario, my one page site works and ranks well with SEO and organic traffic. I've never used paid traffic on that site.

I don't want folks to think I'm saying one page sites is the way to go, but under the specific scenario I've described, it works. That could change of course.

If going the 1-page route, you also have to crunch the search/keyword numbers well. Obviously trying to rank on page 1 in an uber-competive category is difficult no matter what.

You also have to be patient. I don't do anything black hat to it. I just let Google do it's thing. As long as the content is helpful to the end-user, Google will be happy with you even if it's one page.

One page of affiliate links and AdSense ads won't cut it.

It was mentioned up above. Yes, they can work. However, how cost-effective is it to maintain 50 one-page websites?? My main money sites are all sites with dozens, if not hundreds, of pages and they are very easy to maintain.
