Word press help needed.

Hi all great forum I have been around here for a while just reading and learning. My question is a bit stupid I suppose but here goes.
With backlinks does wordpress automatically save them for me or do I have to do something to get links onto my blog. I have read heaps about backlinks and links in general and I can see how important they are, but I am not sure how to make sure I am keeping all the links that come into my blog.
What do I need to do to get the most from links/backlinks?

Regards,
Ray.

Since backlinks are a part of external websites you can't really do anything, just be sure to backlink from credible sources and you shouldn't lose backlinks. The rest is really out of your hands.

Wordpress does not typically do anything for backlinks, you need to go and create links on other peoples pages to get backlinks or use a service to do this for you if you are unsure of how backlinks work.

      Hi raysworld,

You might want to use this free plugin. It will help with your internal and external backlinking. The only thing you have to do is sign up for the guys RSS feed. The download link is in the feed itself

New SEO Plugin for Wordpress: Internal Link Building

All you have to do is activate the plugin, punch in some keywords based on your content/niche and assign a URL.

Also you may consider using a social network plugin that will blast your feed to your social networks. Network publisher as well as bookmarklovers (found here in the warrior forums) are good ones. Don't forget blog/rss directories, etc.

The link building plugin will save you many hours.

Wordpress doesn't do anything. Backlinks are something you either go out and get and/or acquire naturally on behalf of the search engines and what not. For instance, if you put your url in your forum signature (where it should be) and then people clicked on it and went to your site, That'd be a backlink. You can also get backlinks by doing things like commenting on relavent blogs and putting your site url in the appropriate box when you comment and use social bookmarking sites.

    Good luck,
    Joey

the only thing you can do about backlinks is get more!
Don't really worry about how you want to keep your backlinks, worry about the quality of your backlinks - your backlinks need to be from relevant sites to your site and try always going for high PR backlinks.

Another great way to get backlinks is to submit your articles to Article Directories. Make sure that you use your Author Bio well and use keywords as your anchor text. You may even want to link each article to another similar article on your site. You can also create topic specific Squidoo Lens, and make sure that on your website you have a Social Share button that will allow your visitors to share your content.

Try to get more on links that pass authority to your site rather than links with highly optimized anchor text. It's much better to have a few quality links than a ton of cr@ppy ones.

Also I'd suggest to start building the links manually. Do not use the automation services for a first time.

Try to limit anchor texts to about 10-20% of your overall backlink pool. Penguin is not a big fan of keyword spamming in backlinks.
