Can anyone tell me how to convert video formats?

Hey!

I have a few videos in FLV and MP4 formats which I want to edit, so I need them in the AVI format so I can add some neat annotations, stamps, my photos etc..

Any software recommendations please? I don't mind paying as long as its not a fortune...

Hello Lakshay,

the best video converter I know is from Xilisoft. It is stable and fast and you can convert between almost all audio and video files. See here:

SUPER. I use it, and it does pretty much everything.

Encodes, Decodes, Converts, Etc.

I can't post links (just tried) but google "Super" and it's the first result. Dig around for the download link, its hard to find on the website.

Btw, it's completely free and full version, and all the codecs (audio AND video) and built-in.

If you have camtasia, which im sure you do as most marketers use it. Just import that flv and then produce the project as an avi

  Camtasia does not let you import FLV... At least the version 5 (which I have) does not.

Thanks to everyone who responded... I am checking the various options now...

I like a demo software everytime... It lets me play around and get familiar with. Xilisoft is top-charts at the moment... Thanks for everyone who contributed on this thread.

I second the recommendation for SUPER. Here are some tips that, to me, weren't obvious:
- The gray box near the bottom, with a heading row that includes "output status," is where the list of files to convert will go.
- Right click in this gray box and select "output file saving management." From here you can click the checkbox to save the converted version back to the same directory as the source file, or you can select a directory where the converted files will go.
- Drag and drop files from Explorer into the gray box area.
- Then go back to the top and select the options for how you want the files written out.
- When it's all set up, click the Encode button. A progress bar will appear. File encoding can take a few minutes even on a fast machine.
Once you get used to its quirky interface, you'll likely find that SUPER is a convenient free tool.
