Traffic Methods for Amazon Sites?

if one has product review sites, what techniques should you consider strongly targeting for traffic to these sites. looking for people interested in buying.

i have been focused solely on search engine traffic and recently I have taken up article syndication (no results as of yet but i'm hopeful).

a lot of people say social media is the way to go but i seriously stumbleupon or facebook (unless paid traffic on FB) traffic would do me much good.

open to suggestions. gotta prepare for the google update that's supposed to hit next month as I'm getting nearly 97% of my traffic from google

Virtually all of my traffic is from Google, Bing, and Yahoo and it converts very well. I'm not sold on social network traffic as they are typically not in the buying cycle. However, I do include a FaceBook like button on all product pages to induce sharing and backlinks.

i spent many hours on stumbleupon myself before i ever considered doing IM. it was very entertaining stumbling at random and finding cool stuff.

however i can guarantee you I would never have spent more than 3 seconds at a product review site especially if i wasn't considering a certain product to buy.

IMO anyone who recommends SU and some other "viral traffic" avenues for targeted traffic to product review sites if bluffing. you may get 1 or 2 sales off of it but that's one or two visitors out of thousands. to me that's garbage traffic.

i can see the value of a facebook like button on your site though.

I agree. I've never really done real well with viral traffic. However, I do sometimes see the Digg version of some of my pages ranking on page 1 of Google so in that vein, it does help with organic search traffic.

yea I'm at a bit of a crossroads right now. I've been nearly 100% reliant upon google traffic ever since I began and am paying a guy monthly to keep my sites ranked nicely in google.

but i really need to bring in traffic from other sources. it would be suicidal not to.

Yeah, it's tough with Amazon sites as organic traffic is by far the best method.

Video is one decent method that I have tried and had success with but my youtube account was recently banned. I should probably try other video sites.

Another method is list building. Although you still rely on organic traffic to get your visitors it does provide you with some return traffic.

Forums can also be good for traffic but require a bit of time and work.

          A. I haven't had time and B. I was banned because a competitor who was targetting the same new product I was kept flagging my videos, at least that seems to be what happened. I'm sure he'd do the same thing again.

eye for an eye, can't you flag his videos in return

It doesn't really fit in with my philosophy. Any time I spend flagging his videos could be spent working to make my business better. If he wants to be a dick then good luck to him.

The trick is to build a site that gets it original traffic from SEO and then builds a following. Everyday, my main site is seeing more and more return visitors that are clearly type-in/bookmark traffic. That's what I'm shooting for.

I think it is best to do some social media linking to a fan page and help in briinging additional traffic.

Jan Roos has a WSO on PPC to Amazon sites. Im not sure how many success stories there are though as it probably needs quite a lot of patience to find the right keywords, etc.. At least if you mastered PPC, you wouldn't need to rely on Google at all for traffic.

Facebook is decent, but you need a very specific niche and a very large selection of fans that are raving mad about your content, and open to buying products.

Otherwise, SEO is probably best despite its many shortcomings.

Almost all of my traffic and sales are directly from email promotions to stand-alone preselling websites. Other highly convertible methods are article syndication, direct mail, and niche magazine advertising. SEO is totally irrelevant with some of the extremely competitive products or niches.

I would only recommend using social media to generate traffic to opt in pages and so for list building. Direct sales is going to convert poorly. You use SM to build an relationship with followers, network, and build your list (the money is in the list anyway).

The only exception I see on the horizon is Pinterest because there's a shopping element to the experience and you can push people directly to cart links from photos.

Man, I wish I would have got that domain and thought of that. Simple, fun, perfect technique to engage your visitors. That's really cool.

      Neat site!

For traffic, Google seems to be liking "Social Proof" a lot and it can raise you up in the rankings. However, it can also be time sucker.

A combination of simple social proof and basic backlinking i.e. article directories, web2.0 etc has been working well for my sites.

stop jumping around and pick one or two traffic methods and get good at them.

The only way you will win at this game is by getting high qualified and targeted traffic to your offers / squeeze pages. That is how you will increase your changes of making money.

Find something that just works, and stick at it.

I would drive traffic to it in the same way that you would drive targeted traffic to other sites. If you're going to use PPC, make sure you lead it to a proper page where you have a high converting product, with affiiliate commissions that are very high too.

I am testing Adwords on amazon sites - the trick is to ensure there are no external links on your landing page. You can have a link to an inner page that is sales oriented. The landing page will just have the image of the product and a 300 word writeup about the product, the company behind the product, etc. in vague terms, and inviting the visitor to click the link for more details.

I tested a campaign, and got a Quality score of 7, and a bid price of 0.10

If conversions are good, I will continue using adwords. Otherwise, will drop it.

Ive seen better conversions from search engine traffic (the 20% rule) but social media traffic can be helpful to keep you up in SERPS and help in SEO. Also when your site goes down in search positions, these referral, social media, paid, direct traffic can compensate to an extent.

    Thanks.

While traffic from the search engines converts well, you also get fairly good quality traffic from article marketing, especially Ezine, Articlebase, and Goarticles.
