Best practice to remove products.>?

I have a feed that is being dropped which contains about 2000 products. What is the best way to remove these pages. If I just 404 I will be be dinged by Google. If I 301 them to a not available page it would be considered duplicate content... Keeping them available is not an option, the client wants them gone. I was figuring I should redirect them to a not available page but what http status code should be used?
