Hello all,

I was debating about getting a Notepad because they are so small and lite. The one that gets all the press is the one from Apple but is there something else *good* out there that could be a bit more cost-effective? Also, out of curiosity, do reseller options exist for selling notepads?

TIA

Do you mean a tablet computer? if so, then the new iPad from Apple is the best IMO.

Yes, I was speaking of tablets - iPad is on the upper end of the scale - was looking for something a bit more cost efficient.

you can get used iPad 2's for only $399 brand new now and even cheaper if you buy it refurbished or used. android tablets such as galaxy tab cost about the same as an iPad. if you want a tablet for cheap then the best option is probably the Kindle Fire which is $199 brand new but it didn't get good reviews.

I was just about to recommend buying a used iPad! I think buying a refurbished iPad off of the Apple site is the best idea if you want to buy a used iPad though. The refurbished iPads are a lot cheaper than the new ones, and you get the same warranty. Now is a great time to buy a refurbished iPad 2 because the iPad 3 just came out!

It depends on what you want it for.

Is it going to be for creating videos and whatnot? If so, an iPad is prob. your best bet.

Just for reading or taking notes? Maybe watching videos? I love my Kindle Fire for that

If you want an android, the top of the line are the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Transformer Prime.

The Galaxy is not as powerful as the Transformer Prime, but it has 3G/4G available. The Prime is a hot tablet, with more options and power, but it's currently wi-fi only.

The Prime looks like an iPad, but it kicks the iPad 2's butt for power and speed. The camera on the thing beats any tablet I've seen yet.

The Acer Iconia is a really nice system at a bit lower price.

Go iPad, and go used if you must. I use my iPad as my production machine and I LOVE it.

What do you intend to use it for?

I bought an android tablet and it's ok for purposes of amusement.

But for actually getting work done on it that involves text input, a keyboard is needed. And if a keyboard is required to get stuff done, you might as well use a laptop.

If I bought another tablet, which I probably won't, I'd get an iPad, solely because there are more applications for it than on Android.

Most of the time I use a Tablet PC with a touch screen and it offers the best that media tablets & conventional laptops have to offer. Plus, the built in Wacom digitizer coupled with handwriting recognition makes it very nice for writing.

Definitely, I would recommend ASUS Transformer Prime

It's got quadcore CPU that handles all your daily task in a breeze.
And the best thing about it is that it supports FLASH in the browser unlike the Ipad. That means, you can go to any websites without having to worry about flash contents

I strongly suggest that you start out by searching for the apps you think you'll need and use. If they happen to be iPad apps then by an iPad.

If you decide to go with an Android device like the Galaxy or the Kindle Fire just be aware that you won't be able to access all apps and video content if you're outside of the US - very annoying if you want to download an app while on vacation and realize that you can't.

Also I found navigating the Android platform a lot less intuitive than Apple's iOS. It took me a while to get used to it whereas I found the iPhone/iPad almost dunceproof.

Whichever way you decide to go it's probably a good idea to demo both platforms before you decide to pull out your wallet.

    Good luck

The problems with ipads are that they are locked up and no flash.

With Android tablets you get HDMI, flash support, usb ports, card readers for external storage, and one model even has a dock with a keyboard (can't remember what it is now). They also are approaching the number of aps in the play store that apple has.

Apple fans love Apples stuff - but it is crippled out of the box compared to Android tablets. And Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4) is very slick.

    My recommendation - go Android!

A few people have mentioned the Kindle Fire...

It's a fun toy, and a good system for some types of entertainment, but it's not going to be a productivity tool.

    VERY good advice.

I can attest to this. I am a proud Kindle Fire owner, but the Kindle falls horribly short in the connectivity department. When you purchase a tablet, you should look for a few things to make it more connection friendly. USB ports are a MUST. A USB allows for memory expansion as well as the option to use a Mobile Broadband device if your tablet only has wi-fi.

I'd look for a device with Bluetooth as well, so you have the option of using a keyboard if you want to. You can't deny the portability of a tablet. It makes my laptop seem like a bulky desktop; however, keyboards are sometimes a must as typing using the onscreen virtual alternative is laborious and time-consuming.

I find that Android has everything I need. Good luck!

    Some very good tablets:
    Apple iPad (16GB)
ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime (32GB) - full featured Android and good camera, looks nice.

    Some good tablets:
    SONY Tablet S (32GB)
    SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab 10.1 (16GB)

Better you see all of them and make your decision.

I am apple all the way. It has it's short comings, but I haven't found anything I need to do that I can't do and the way it works with my mac makes it even better. Don't know about the newest model, and heard this evening there are issues with it getting hot. But have you seen the down right cheap prices of the IPAD 2?

My family loves the iPad. Even when my grandson was only 18 months old, he knew how to work the basic functions to play games and view photos.

When they actually bought him the HP tablet when it went for $99.00, he wouldn't use it and insisted on the iPad.

It is so intuitive. I can't wait to get one. I won't even consider any other brand. I LOVE my iMac.
