There’s this tradition that you post something about what you have learnt when you reach 1000 posts on the forum. I keep meaning to but time just whooshed past so I figured I had better do it now.

I joined this forum in July 2011 with the aim of developing an internet business that would free me from the nightmare that my life was. I got a whole lot more that I bargained for.

For the first three months it felt like I would never ‘get it’. I was constantly in a state of panic at how much I had to learn. After about two months I realised I was burning out, so I made a list of everything I had to learn and then got laser focussed on the first thing on the list. Once I had made a reasonable amount of progress on it – enough to do it, even if it was not perfect, then I focused on the next item on the list. And so I ticked off the list.

It still felt like it was never going to click into place. I looked at the crossed-off list and thought ‘Ok, now what?”. It was time to put a implement a plan into action.

I wrote a small “How To” book , setup a sales page, listed it at Digiresults, and started advertising. It sold all of one copy. A tiny success but it was a success.

In the meantime one of my friends saw a site of mine, together with a Facebook page that I had done and she asked me if I could do the same for her business. With that question a whole new avenue of income revealed itself to me. My offline consultancy was born. Eight months later it is bringing in an average of $1500 a month since February this year and growing. It will become my main bread and butter business.

In February this year I released my first WSO and it sold 25 copies. Not huge I know but if you look at the stats, most newbies releasing their first WSO never sell more than 10 copies in their first launch. 25 copies is my definition of success … for now anyway. I have higher expectations for the next one

All of the learning is however useless, unless you start to understand that you are building a business here and not a ‘quick cash’ option. Only when you build a business on a solid foundation of relationships, trust, commitment, dedication and integrity, will you start reaping the benefits of all the hard work.

My sincere wish is that I never stop learning and growing.

Thanks
Di

This is probably the most important aspect of business every person should learn. Thanks a lot for this.

Nice note. I actually saw your WSO posted a couple days ago, maybe a week now. It was the PLR pack... something with Africa in the title, right? I actually read it - sounded interesting and most importantly different. Have a lovely day!

Though a tiny success in sales terms, it's a huge success
    in practical Internet Marketing terms.

Too many people get stuck at the learning and ideas stage
and never put what they've learned into practice.

So, well done for taking the big steps into action.

From one sale to 25 sales.

For the next one, just focus on making an even better
offer that matches what people want and are willing to
    pay for.

Congratulations on getting past the 1,000 post mark Diana.

        Diane,

I could see from the start you had that steely South African determination and I was pretty certain from the first few posts I read of yours that you'd be going places fairly quickly - You've certainly done that.

I'm not going to ramble on but I will say I admire your tenacity, hard work and good, honest determination. You're someone I consider a friend and I wish you all the best.

Heaven knows where you'll be when you get to the two year mark, which was how long it took me to earn anything of note.

Good for you, onwards and upwards and all that stuff.

I like the idea of making a list and focusing on one aspect of IM at a time. It seems like the ideal way to make progress in this industry, considering the information overload that often overwhelms people.

    Hey Di,

You have done very well within this short time... seriously! There are many
who have been doing this thing for YEARS and haven't even made the impact
you have made. $1,500 per month is a great step forward! Reminds me of the
many great quotes by greats on the subject:

I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.
    Thomas A. Edison

All great masters are chiefly distinguished by the power of adding a second, a third, and perhaps a fourth step in a continuous line. Many a man had taken the first step. With every additional step you enhance immensely the value of your first.

    Peter A. Cohen

    John Wanamaker

The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.
    John Pierpont Morgan

The elevator to success is out of order. You'll have to use the stairs... one step at a time.

Building an online business takes time, dedication, hardwork and most importantly we need integrity, I really appreciate this thread a lot!

Internet Marketing certainly does work, currently lots of IMers out are already making so much money beyond their wildest dream, it's proven!

We just need to have the right information and the willingness to take consistent action to reach that level..

    Thanks a lot,
    Jeremiah
