IM Doesn't Have To Be Hard

I just read the post by "frustrated". I see people doing so many different things.

This is the problem as I see it:

1) Information overload
2) Trying to do too much (like everything) Focus on what works.
3) Thinking there is a easy, new, or secret method. IM is basic.

Here is the solution:

1) Build your list - I cannot say this enough. Build your list first. Focus on building your list. Send all of your traffic to your opt-in page so you can build your list. Build your list!

2) Forget about SEO and creating backlinks and all of that crap. It is too much work. Instead work on #4

3) Create your own products. Quit buying products and jumping from one thing to the next. Instead become a product creator.

4) Help your affiliates make money promoting your product. Do you really want to be the one creating squidoo pages, writing articles, and building backlinks all day long?

IM is simple and basic. There are no secrets. Take action!

Building a list. That's what sales most come from.

It's true with so many different area's in IM it's very easy to get lost!!

Make a plan, focus in on the major tasks and get it done. List Building should be included from the outset. Was watching an interview about a guy who runs a very popular blog (well over 1 million visitors) and he said the biggest regret he had was not building a list from the start....

So no matter how new or experienced you are - build that list

This is not an easy thing to do for most people but when done will profoundly alter one's income for the better. I learned this lesson the hard way but now I have several products which have made life a lot easier.

I would say that the best strategy is to Never QUIT!!!! It's not going to be easy at first but as long as you stick to it and continue to learn and work hard for it, SUCCESS will come your way

Thanks for the refocus. I for one have spent thousands of dollars on one shiny object after another and after joining this forum and forcing myself to focus on one thing at a time, I'm actually now starting to feel like I'm on the right track t building an actual business.

I guess I always knew this but you're totally right, building your list is the single most important thing you can do for your business and trying to learn everything else all at once is like trying to install a roof before you have a foundation.

    Man I love this forum!!

    great post RRN,
Focus and list building is key.
It's so easy to get distracted in the endless search for the WSO that will make your business, but actually going that route will break your business. Not s single WSO, but the ongoing purchasing of too many to effectively implement is what I'm talking about it.

You do have to sell your product and prove that it converts first.

On the flip side, if it were "easy".... as in where it gets to the point where the success is more automatic.... then people tend to sort of become comfortable with that ease. What happens then, is if that process breaks, the person may not have anything else on the go either...

Which suddenly knocks them off their feet.

I totally agree with building your list. I have been in IM since (technically) 2004 but didn't really start making money til late 2005.

    However, I didn't start building a list til 2010!

Newbies viewing this thread, you keep reading "the money is in the list" or "a buyer's list is more lucrative than a freebie list" so, instead of just repeating what RRN said "build a list"....what I recommend you do is focus on learning HOW to build a list. Spend your time/money on buying products (or researching for free) how to build a list. That is part of "focusing", ie spending time on one subject...building a list.

By creating a product, e.g. a WSO, you can build a buyer's list. I would recommend that over just building a squeeze page and spending time with SEO etc. At least in the beginning. Watch videos on youtube about how to set up your autoresponder. No one taught me how to do this. I'm still learning about segmenting my lists etc.

Creating a product and gaining a buyer's list will help you immensely and most importantly give you the confidence you can do it.

So, just saying "build a list", "create a product" is easy to type but for the total newbie, this is like climbing Everest (in their mind). However, because so many say it, and I confirm it, then focus on learning those 2 traits you'll begin to build a real online business.

I see this all the time, where someone doesn't build a list, and expect too many results. We also have a problem of linking irrelevant sites, which also doesn't bring targeted traffic.

    Good post!

The best thing you can do for yourself is to put yourself on a daily internet marketing routine. That way you know everything you need to be doing to get more traffic and sales into your business.

I've been building up a list since last year in June when I decided to go online.

I agree a lot is information overload. But some is bad information and some is missing information and not being smart enough to even know you're missing something let alone what it is that's missing.

Kind of makes it hard to discern what's good and what's bad until you have a little time under your belt. And that's what makes overload and "lack of focus".

Just my two cents as a relative newbie.

No matter what anyone says, or no matter if you are in any particular niche or amazon selling, you are light years ahead of the sheeple out there if you are building yourself a list of prospects!!! That is what changed my whole business and financial situation. Once you have a list, you have leverage. The bigger the list, and the better relationship you have with them, the more money you can make.

Excellent post Especially the reference to "Sheeple" !!

Seriously, the list is leverage, bigger list = more leverage = more $$$

I've been on the wrong side of list building for longer than I should be. I'm on everybody's list, and almost nobody's on mine.
Why? Setting up an offer is complicated in many ways:
Do you plan to set up a funnel? If so, what are you going to offer as upsells and cross sells? Is the offer the right one for the niche(s)? How about the autoresponder series, how long should it be? How often should you mail out? Do you gather names as well as emails to be able to personalize emails? How much information do you give away to your list? How much do you hold back to maintain interest in your authority?
You get the idea, there are many choices you have to decide on.
It's easy to type "Just do it" it's harder to "Just do it".

What promo_guy said rings true for me, I know a whole lot of what not to do, and should have done things correctly a long time ago. It's human nature not to want to admit you're wrong.
I admit I've been wrong not to build a list. At least, I'm taking action and trying to rectify the situation. ;-)
Thanks to Resale Rights Ninja for the refocus. Solid advice!

Great points RRN. If you combine the "Shiny New Object" syndrome with what I call "Analysis Paralysis", you get S.N.O.A.P. SNOAP = wasted time under the guise of actually working.

You're so right about focusing on #4. Would you rather spend the day at the beach while an affiliate army sells your product all day long, or sit at home writing articles, building links, and of course, buying new WSO's ??

    Great thread starter RRN

This is so true. The secret to making money online...

    THERE ARE NO SECRETS!

so true, if there were secrets, they would cost a bloody fortune right?

The real secret is that nothing comes easily, and I agree, hard work, dedication, taking action and shutting off distractions to take more action.

I remember seeing Mike Filsaime at a seminar event back in 2008 just before the stockmarket crashed. I was making about 1k a month. But his advise to me back then to earn more was simple.

    1) more products

    2) Tons more affiliates.

I listened to him and months later was able to quit my job and start on my way to 5 figures a month.

It is all about making yourself do work, and take action, plan and then take more action.

Now that's keeping it Simple! It's so easy to forget that too. I can be the world's worst offender and over complicate the heck out of everything. But, that's when it's time to remember your post and keep it simple! Have a great day!
